Ron Spaulding Promoted To President Of Fontana

Universal Music Group Distribution (UMGD), the sales, marketing and distribution subsidiary of Universal Music Group, has promoted Ron Spaulding to President of Fontana, UMGD's independent distribution arm. Formerly, Mr. Spaulding served as Executive Vice President & General Manager of Fontana.

Prior to joining Fontana, Mr. Spaulding served as Executive Vice President/General Manager of Asylum and EastWest Records, overseeing the day-to-day operations of both labels. He also served as the Senior Vice President of Sales at WEA, Warner Music Group's distribution arm. His background also includes serving as Senior Vice President of Sales at Elektra Entertainment Group and in a number of senior positions at Priority Records.


Tammy Genovese Resigns As CEO Of The Country Music Association

The County Music Association (CMA) Board of Directors announced that Tammy Genovese has submitted her resignation as Chief Executive Officer effective Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Genovese, a 24-year veteran of CMA, has successfully overseen the organization's continued phenomenal growth and financial stability even as music genres across the nation have experienced a slump.

Goodman said Steve Moore, Chairman-elect of the CMA Board and Senior Vice President of AEG Live!, has agreed to serve as interim director of the CMA during the transition. The Board will engage a search firm to conduct a national search for a new executive director.


Atlantic Records UK Appoints Mark Terry As General Manager

Atlantic Records UK announced the appointment of Mark Terry as General Manager. Reporting to Max Lousada, Chairman, Atlantic Records UK, Terry will oversee some of the key functions within the label, including Marketing, Digital, Press and Creative. He will look after the operations of those departments while A&R and Promotions will continue to report directly to Max Lousada.

Terry began his career in the press department at WEA, working with Barbara Charone and Lee Ellen Newman. After joining Virgin in 1990, he orchestrated International campaigns for the label's US roster alongside special projects including the launch of the Rolling Stones Voodoo Lounge tour in Europe. The scope of Terry's role broadened when he became Marketing Director of Virgin in 2000, and again when he took over as General Manager of the label in 2004, a position he held until 2008. During this period, he steered campaigns for The Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, Daft Punk, Air, Rolling Stones, Everything But The Girl, Lenny Kravitz, Janet Jackson, The Spice Girls, George Michael, The Thrills, Kelis, NERD, The Kooks and Katy Perry, among others. Most recently, Terry occupied the position of Senior Vice President of Marketing - UK & Ireland, for EMI's UK labels, responsible for day to day activities beyond A&R.


Warner/Chappell Music Strengthens Urban A&R Team

Warner/Chappell Music, the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group Corp. announced that it has strengthened its Urban A&R team with the appointments of Juan Madrid, Vice President, Urban A&R, and Ryan Press, Senior Director, Urban A&R. Effectively immediately, Madrid will be based in Los Angeles and report to Scott Francis, President, Warner/Chappell Music, and Chairman and CEO, Warner/Chappell Music U.S. Press, who is based in New York, will report to Jason Boyarski, Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Company's New York office. Francis will oversee the Urban A&R team with Boyarski's support.

Both Madrid and Press will develop and further bolster Warner/Chappell's roster of Urban songwriters by signing emerging and established songwriters, working to acquire songwriter catalogs as well as marketing and promoting current and future Warner/Chappell songs and songwriters to recording artists throughout the industry. They will work closely with Greg Sowders, Senior Vice President and Head of A&R for Warner/Chappell Music, and his team as well as coordinate with the Company's synch and licensing departments to create writer collaborations and secure song placements on album projects, as well as for film, TV, videogames and other media platforms.


ASCAP Membership Group Announces Promotions In Pop/Rock And Latin Departments

Randall Grimmett, Senior Vice President, Domestic Membership of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) announced that Jason Silberman has been promoted to Senior Director, Membership - Pop/Rock. In addition, Joshua Briggs and Marc Emert-Hutner have been promoted to Director, Membership - Pop/Rock and Jorge Rodriguez has been promoted to Director, Membership - Latin.

Silberman, who is based in ASCAP's New York office, is responsible for the recruitment and retention of members and has been instrumental in ASCAP's outreach for the Pop/Rock department in Atlanta and the southeast and Chicago and the Midwest. He joined ASCAP in 2002 and was most recently Director, Membership - Pop/Rock.

Briggs, based in Los Angeles, was most recently Associate Director, Membership - Pop/Rock. He joined ASCAP in 2005 and has been instrumental in the continued strength of ASCAP's repertory in Pop, Rock and Modern Rock music.

Emert-Hutner has been with ASCAP since 2005 and works in the New York office. In addition to his responsibilities of recruitment and retention of writers, he has been involved in the servicing and development of Film/TV composers on the East Coast and worked closely with the Film/TV department for a number of years. He was most recently Associate Director, Membership - Pop/Rock.

Rodriguez, also based in ASCAP's New York office is responsible for the recruitment and retention of members for Latin music. He has worked extensively on an international basis for ASCAP. He was most recently Associate Director, Membership - Latin and joined ASCAP in 1998.


GoDigital Media Group Announces Key Appointment To Distribution Division

GoDigital Media Group, a leading entertainment media distribution and marketing company, announced the restructuring of their digital distribution team. Mike Rubsamen will assume the role of Director of Digital Distribution, a newly created position to better serve GoDigital’s internal operations and expanding client base.

Rubsamen, who has been managing the mobile and video aspects of GoDigital’s pipeline, will assume his new responsibilities immediately. Duties will include managing GoDigital’s content operations team as well as global product management and release strategy for both new and catalog titles. Rubsamen will report directly to GoDigital’s CEO and co-founder, Jason Peterson.


Jeffrey Kurtis To Rejoin Today's Country Magazine Staff

After separating in July of 2009, David Pierce has brought Jeffrey Kurtis back to his staff at Today's Country Magazine. Jeffrey has been a contributing writer to the magazine over the past month, but Pierce has brought him back on board in his previous role as the Head of the Nashville Office of Today's Country Magazine effective immediately with Kurtis retaining all co-ownership rights.

Sally Parks, Editorial Director at the Nashville Office, continues her position as the head writer/reporter covering artists, showcases, concerts and special events, including field reporting, photography and exclusive "chat-erviews".
