The Frosty Sounds of China's GuiGui SuiSui and The Electric Shadows
Their EP features 3 tracks loaded with obscure and frost bitten themes, ranging from temperature drops, dancing cats and undead zombies
Hailing from the frigid province of Changchun in northeast China comes a band with ice in their veins and ready to rock you out cold. GuiGui SuiSui and The Electric Shadows is the band noted for playing a fusion of Punk, Country, and Blues that is darker than black ice. The band consists of front man GuiGui SuiSui, Xiao Hai and Mao Da Gong, all of them quite talented musicians as well as innovators.
GuiGui SuiSui is a the front man for the band with a rusty voice and a murky attitude to match. To accompany his brash lyrics he also play his signature diddly board made from a skateboard with one string laced on it. Xiao Hai was regarded as a prolific beat-boxer before joining The Electric Shadows, the rhythm section of the band. He borrowed GuiGui SuiSui diddly board off his cold fingers to strum the swampy basslines heard in their music. Mao Da Gong is a favorite in the Changchun Hardcore scene, and is know for hammering away as the band's dirty drummer. Together they are in charge for creating their dark and neo-noir sound that would belong in a Quentin Tarantino picture.
Their most recent work is their EP entitled "Nineteen Below Zero" inspired by Changchun's devilish cold weather. Released by Hong Kong based Metal Postcard Records, the EP features 3 tracks loaded with obscure and frost bitten themes, ranging from temperature drops, dancing cats and undead zombies. GuiGui SuiSui and The Electric Shadows offer a ghastly and swampy sound influenced partially by 60's Blues bands such as The Animals as well as more contemporary bands such as The Stripes and The Black Keys. But their EP definitely has a more gritty sound than what is mostly heard regularly; perfect for a smokey, underground bar.
GuiGui SuiSui and The Electric Shadows is a band ready to break the ice and melt hearts of the unbeknownst fans across the world who don't quite see things with a silver lining; more of a cold, bludgeoned black line. It's music for the soul with a heart of coal. GuiGui SuiSui and The Electric Shadows are the band to bring the Punk attitude to the hazy Blues of Country music and will be known as the notorious band from Changchun, China.
