Beijing's 山水 Shanshui Records 10 Year Anniversary
After 10 years, Shanshui Records has now become an established base for Chinese electronic musicians, producers and fans
山水 Shanshui Records was established in 2003, and after 10 years has now become an established base for Chinese electronic musicians, producers, and fans familiar with the development of electronic music in China. Within the space of those 10 years, Shanshui has released many CD's in various styles such as IDM, Hardcore, Ambient, Techno, Acid, and 8-bit, but has maintained its eclectic taste in music and its independance from the heavily money oriented music industry.
Shanshui Records will be celebrating their 10th anniversary party @ DADA Beijing on the 31 of August. Featuring live performances from Covox (travelled specially from Sweden for this performance), Billy Starman, Dead J, Guzz and Sulumi. Also, visuals from VJ Ink.
Covox makes live 8-bit / chiptune music on vintage Nintendo Gameboys and home-made instruments, and has collaborated with Sulumi and Shanshui over the years. His hi-energy ecstatic performances around the world have created a cult following, and is regarded as one of the finest of the genre. His song "Sunday" was famously (and illegally) sampled by indie punk darlings Crystal Castles -- you've heard it.
