GUIGUISUISUI Books 43 City Tour of China, Malaysia and Indonesia
The tour will begin in Beijing on January 3, 2014 at Temple Bar and conclude on March 1 at Club XP, with 29 Chinese cities in between
One man DIY punk/blues/horror artist GUIGUISUISUI is set to embark on a two month long tour of China, Malaysia, and Indonesia. His first in a year, the tour will begin in Beijing on January 3, 2014 at Temple Bar and conclude on March 1 at Club XP, with 29 Chinese cities in between, plus 14 cities in across Malaysia and Indonesia.
Originally from Dartford, England (home of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones), GUIGUISUISUI started making dark garage blues on a variety of instruments including a one stringed skateboard guitar (The Diddly Board) in the freezing cold of Changchun, Northeast China in 2012. While working with a variety of side men including beatboxers and drummers, as well as a punk rock rhythm section dubbed The Electric Shadows, GUIGUISUISUI settled on a one man band format after relocating to Beijing in the summer of 2013.
Since arriving in Beijing GUIGUISUISUI has been working with a number of DIY labels, most prominently Genjing Records, a vinyl only label run by Nevin Domer. Genjing operates on the ethos of giving artists the tools to gain further exposure outside of their individual scenes, pushing to create a DIY network whilst linking Chinese artists with overseas contemporaries (the recent 7” splits between Shanghai's Pairs / New Zealand's God Bows to Math and Beijing's Dear Eloise/ Australia's Underground Lovers being perfect examples.) Genjing will be releasing a split 7” of GUIGUISUISUI and Low Bow in 2014.
After a successful 8 city tour of China, South Korea, and Japan at the start of 2013, GUIGUISUISUI is now embarking on a tour that will take him to cities across Asia previously toured by other Genjing Records affiliated artists, including Fanzui Xiangfa (犯罪想法), Pairs, Yang Haisong (Dear Eloise, After Argument, P.K. 14) and Alpine Decline. Along the way he will be playing with the likes of Shanghai's party rock hellions Roundeye, Nanjing noise rock duo Plastic Heads, Hong Kong garage rockers Say Mosquito, Chengdu's seminal Hi Person, Xinxiang's rising stars of post-punk The Fallacy, and Beijing friends including Low Bow, Alpine Decline, Streets Kill Strange Animals, Dumb Plants and After Argument.
To support help finance this DIY odyssey GUIGUISUISUI will be selling copies of it's a HARD MODE when you're ON THE ROAD with dem particle board blues (a live album recorded in South Korea and released on DIY label Kitchen Table Recordings) packaged with The Streets Are Your Canvas; a zine documenting the 2013 tour, illustrated by sought after Australian artist Lizzie Nagy.
