Dialect, cuisine and fashion tastes can vary by state, and the songs people like to play are no different, according to a recent list of the distinctively best-selling sheet music titles by Musicnotes.com, the world's top digital sheet music e-retailer and publisher.

Musicnotes crafted a list of the "Uniquely Popular Sheet Music by State (Plus D.C.)" to expound on the breadth of its sheet music catalogue, as well as the diversity of its sheet music audience.

"What we're seeing is that people want to play music that speaks to them and touches them on a personal level," said Bill Aicher, Chief Growth Officer for Musicnotes. "For example, musicians in New York are more likely to download sheet music for Billy Joel's 'New York State of Mind' than musicians in any other state."

"Musicnotes.com is committed to maintaining the largest selection of digital sheet music titles, in order to best serve all musicians, in both the US and around the world," Aicher added.

As expected, some states' song picks were not surprising—such as the popularity of John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" in West Virginia. In a surprising twist, however, "Good Morning Baltimore" from the hit Broadway musical 'Hairspray' did make the company's "Uniquely Popular" list, but not in Maryland. It was the most frequently downloaded in a different Atlantic Coast state—New Jersey.

The complete list follows:
Alabama: What Love Is This by Kari Jobe
Alaska: Sail by AWOLNATION
Arkansas: Grace by Laura Story
Arizona: Stay by Rihanna
California: I See the Light from 'Tangled'
Colorado: Colder Weather by Zac Brown Band
Connecticut: Corner of the Sky from 'Pippin'
Delaware: As the Deer by Salvador
District of Columbia: Young & Beautiful by Lana Del Rey
Florida: God Bless the U.S.A. by Lee Greenwood
Georgia: Magic to Do from 'Pippin'
Hawaii: Almost is Never Enough by Ariana Grande
Idaho: Hold Me by Jamie Grace
Illinois: Feeling Good by Michael Bublé
Indiana: Need You Now (How Many Times) by Plumb
Iowa: Bind Us Together by Bob Gillman
Kansas: Worn by Tenth Avenue North
Kentucky: Pie Jesu from 'Requiem'
Louisiana: Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Maine: I Shall Not Live In Vain by Bill Douglas
Maryland: Someone to Watch Over Me from 'Oh Kay!'
Massachusetts: Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus
Michigan: Cornerstone by Hillsong
Minnesota: When God Made You by NewSong
Mississippi: At the Cross by Hillsong
Missouri: Agnus Dei by Donnie McClurkin
Montana: Wings of a Dove by Bob Ferguson
Nebraska: Remember Me by Laura Story
Nevada: Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy
New Hampshire: Our God by Chris Tomlin
New Jersey: Good Morning Baltimore from 'Hairspray'
New Mexico: Give You Glory by Jeremy Camp
New York: New York State of Mind by Billy Joel
North Carolina: Surely the Presence of the Lord Is In This Place by Lanny Wolfe
North Dakota: Never Alone by Jim Brickman
Ohio: Every Praise by Hezekiah Walker
Oklahoma: How He Loves by David Crowder Band
Oregon: Misty Mountains from 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'
Pennsylvania: God Bless America by Irving Berlin
Rhode Island: It's Time by Imagine Dragons
South Carolina: No Other Name by Freddy Rodriquez
South Dakota: Story of My Life by One Direction
Tennessee: Raise You Up/Just Be from 'Kinky Boots'
Texas: I Can Only Imagine by MercyMe
Utah: Christofori's Dream by David Lanz
Vermont: Viva La Vida by Coldplay
Virginia: On Eagle's Wings by Michael Joncas
Washington: Same Love by Macklemore
West Virginia: Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver
Wisconsin: God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton
Wyoming: The Climb by Miley Cyrus

To compile the list, Musicnotes looked at the top 50 selling songs from January 1, 2013 to March 13, 2013 for each state. They then excluded titles appearing on their all-around best-sellers list (to focus on those songs whose popularity was unique to the individual state). Sheet music selections statistically more popular in each state than in any other state, based on total number of downloads, were deemed the winners.
