Hortensia Roig Joins Berklee's Presidential Advisory Council
Hortensia Roig, general secretary of the Escuela de Empresarios (EDEM) in Valencia, Spain, has joined Berklee College of Music's Presidential Advisory Council. With this appointment, Roig becomes the first Spanish woman to serve on the council, joining 30 other highly regarded leaders in the business world committed to the promotion of music education.
Roig holds a law degree from the University of Valencia with a specialization in business. Before becoming the general secretary of the Escuela de Empresarios EDEM, she was director of the Junior MBA program for five years. She also serves on the Board of Administration of Mercadona, a chain of supermarkets in Spain with 1,471 stores and over 74,000 employees, and on the board of the Institute for Family Business.
She has taught several workshops on entrepreneurial culture at the University of Valencia and participates frequently in presentations at events to promote entrepreneurship and business ethics. Roig began her legal career at the firm Uria & Menedez.
BMG Promotes Patrick Jöst To Executive Vice-President Licensing & Marketing International
BMG has promoted Patrick Jöst to Executive Vice-President Licensing & Marketing International, leading the company's worldwide sync and brand marketing activities across both recordings and music publishing.
Jöst, who first joined BMG in 2009, heads the company's international team of sync and licensing staff in nine territories. He previously held the position of SVP Licensing & Marketing International.
Patrick Jöst began his professional career with Sony Music Germany and Frankfurt-based 3P Records, before becoming Manager Talent & Artist Relations at MTV Central, with responsibility for video selection and marketing cooperation with record companies, artists and managers. From 2002 to 2008, he established and headed the sync department at Sony/ATV Music Publishing in Germany.
SOCAN Raises The Bar For Music Rights In Québec With Appointment Of Geneviève Côté To Chief Québec Affairs Officer
Music industry leader Geneviève Côté has joined SOCAN in the newly created role of Chief Québec Affairs Officer, with a mandate of elevating SOCAN's success and presence in Québec by raising awareness of SOCAN and important issues among regional politicians, influential journalists, and essential stakeholders.
Working directly with CEO Eric Baptiste as SOCAN's primary high-level point of contact for the Québec music industry, SOCAN licensees, opinion leaders and decision-makers, Côté will build an even more meaningful presence for the organization at important events, forums and conferences. As manager of SOCAN's Montréal office, she will work with a team of more than 20 full-time employees who serve the Québec-based 25,000-plus members and the many thousands of businesses in the province that are licensed to play music.
SESAC Promotes Scott Jungmichel to Senior Vice President, Royalty Distribution & Research Services
SESAC, the nation's most progressive performing rights organization, has announced the promotion of Scott Jungmichel to Senior Vice President, Royalty Distribution & Research Services. Formerly Vice President, Jungmichel will be responsible for the planning, organizing and directing of the operations of the Royalty Distribution & Research Services department. Jungmichel will also oversee the performance of all department functions including Content Registration and Optimization, Royalty Administration, A/V Client Services and Research & Analysis.
Jungmichel began his career with SESAC in 1993 as a Coordinator in the Licensing Administration department before becoming the Foreign Royalties Administrator in 1994 and Manager, International Royalties & Documentation in 1995. He worked in the Royalty Distribution & Research Services department as Manager, Director & Senior Director before being named Associate Vice President in 2006. In 2011, Jungmichel was promoted to Vice President, Royalty Distribution & Research Services, a position he held until his recent appointment. Jungmichel graduated Magna Cum Laude from Belmont University with degrees in Music Business & Management.
Riptide Music Group Names Dan Silver as VP of Creative
Newly formed Riptide Music Group has named Dan Silver as its Vice President of Creative. A "sync-flavored" global publishing administration powerhouse, Riptide's services include the worldwide synchronization of music for advertising, movie trailers, television, film and videogames. The company also provides services for the international collection of publishing royalties.
As VP of Creative, Silver will oversee creative operations and marketing at Riptide Music Group. From producing artists, creating movie trailer music, to running Riptide's studio, to serving as a client creative liaison for the advertising, film, TV, movie trailer, and videogame industries, Silver will present clients with the company's best artistic selections and custom productions.
Shunichi Tokura Re-elected Chairman of JASRAC
On March 19, 2014, an election for chairmanship was held upon the expiration of the previous term (March 31, 2014), and JASRAC Full Member Shunichi Tokura was re-elected (third-term) and assumed his role April 1, 2014. The term of office is from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2016.
Shunichi Tokura started playing the violin at age 4 and acquired a basic music education in Germany where he spent his elementary and high school years. Later, he debuted as a composer while still a student at the Faculty of Law of Gakushuin University. He further studied composition, conducting as well as screening and studio production in the United States of America and Great Britain, and has been active in the field of music around the world. He has served as a member of the Council for Cultural Affairs, a managing director for the Japan Composer's Association, a director for the All Japan Authors and Composers' Association and the Japan Composers & Arrangers Association, and an advisor to the Song Writer's Union of Japan. Some of his most famous works are "UFO" (Pink Lady), "AZUSA 2-GOU" (Karyudo), "JOHNNY ENO DENGON" (Pedro & Capricious), and "DOUNIMO TOMARANAI" (Linda Yamamoto).
For JASRAC, Shunichi Tokura is an 11-term councilor (one term as council chairman), three-term director as well as a member of JASRAC's International Committee, chairman for the Broadcast Committee and the Articles of Association Amendment Committee. On August 12, 2010, he was inaugurated as chairman of JASRAC.
SOCAN CEO Eric Baptiste Elected Chairperson of CISAC Board of Directors
CISAC, the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers, has elected SOCAN CEO Eric Baptiste as Chairperson of its Board of Directors. Ms. Marisa Gandelman, CEO of UBC (Brazil) and Mr. Javier Gutierrez, CEO of VEGAP (Spain), continue holding their positions as Vice-Chairs.
With more than 25 years of experience in the entertainment industry, Eric Baptiste has influenced media, cultural policies, and collective management of rights around the world. He has strong links with CISAC, having served as Director General of the organization from 1999 to 2010.
In January 2010, Mr. Baptiste was appointed CEO of SOCAN, and under his leadership the organization has achieved new records in music licensing collected for its more than 120,000 member songwriters, composers and music publishers. While serving as SOCAN CEO, he continued being active at CISAC, including as a member of the organization's Board of Directors and as chair of CISAC committees.
