Peermusic Names Vincent "Tuff" Morgan Director Of A&R, Pop/Urban
peermusic, the world's largest independent music publisher, announced that Vincent "Tuff" Morgan has been named Director of A&R, Pop/Urban. Morgan will be based in the company's Los Angeles office and will oversee joint ventures and acts across the peermusic repertoire including Salaam Remi, 1500 or Nothin, Family of the Year and up-and-coming R & B singer, Teeflii.
A powerhouse Urban/Pop music industry insider and professional with over 15 years of major record label and music publishing experience, Tuff Morgan wears many hats including that of artist, producer, manager, writer and music supervisor, and he has worked with a vast array of artists including KRS-1, Dr. Dre, Brandy, Busta Rhymes and Rhianna. While writing, producing and developing acts, Morgan started A&R consulting for music executives such as Jheryl Busby (Motown/umbrella records), Brian Turner (Priority Records) and also secured an imprint deal with Kanye West's G.O.O.D Music label. He was also an A&R consultant to peermusic prior to this appointment.
MondoTunes Appoints Warren Huart As Head Of A&R And Artist Development
MondoTunes announced that it has appointed Multi-Platinum Producer Warren Huart to its new position of Head of A&R and Artist Development. Mr. Huart, who has worked with some of the top artists in the world, including Aerosmith, The Fray, James Blunt, Daniel Powter, Kris Allen and many more, will be taking an active role in helping to nurture the careers of hand-picked artists from MondoTunes' ever-growing list of extremely talented artists worldwide.
Over the past few months, MondoTunes has been sifting through the thousands of existing artists in their distribution database, as well as attempting to discover new acts via vehicles such as songwriting contests in order to hand-pick the best of the best and play an active role in helping to advance their career and get them to the next level.
One of the first items on the agenda for Huart will be playing the role of Judge in an upcoming Pop/Rock Song Contest to be announced soon. Musician's Friend Hires Tony Motta as Director of Merchandising, Electric Guitars
Musician's Friend, the largest direct response retailer of musical instruments and gear in the U.S., and a division of Guitar Center, announces that Tony Motta has been hired as Musician's Friend's Director of Merchandising, Electric Guitars. The announcement was made by Dana Litton, Musician's Friend's VP of Merchandising, Combo Products, and represents MF's ongoing expansion and continued emphasis on the electric guitar market. Motta was considered an ideal match for the role based on his many years of experience in the MI industry and deep knowledge of the guitar market. Prior to joining Musician's Friend, Motta held the position of Director of Sales, National Accounts, Fender Musical Instruments Corporation.
Tony's 16-year career in the M.I. world began at SWR in 1997 as a Telephone Sales Representative in Sylmar, California. After being promoted to Sales Administration Manager, he was then moved to Director of Sales, where he managed worldwide commerce for SWR in 2001. In 2003, Fender acquired SWR and appointed him Director of Sales, National Accounts, Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. In his new role, Tony will head up the Electric Guitars category in the Musician's Friend division.
Erin Moore Named As New Executive Director At Astoria Performing Arts Center
The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) announced that Erin Moore will be the new Executive Director, replacing Taryn Sacramone, who resigned last June. This is the culmination of a nearly year-long search for that candidate whose love for the performing arts is matched only by her commitment to further the cultural vibrancy of Queens. Moore's first production as Executive Director will be Rodgers & Hammerstein's Allegro, directed by APAC's Artistic Director Tom Wojtunik, opening May 1st, 2014.
Since its founding in 2001, APAC has served Queens and New York City by producing revivals of plays and musicals, as well as developing new works through readings and workshops. The company established a home theater at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, on Crescent and 30th Road, and set up its offices at Kaufman Astoria Studios. In 2012, USA Today named APAC a "Top Queens Attraction." The New York Times praised APAC for being "adventurous" and "talented" and Time Out New York included the company on its list of "50 Reasons to Love NYC Theater."
ERIN MOORE is a graduate of the Master of Arts program in Arts Administration at Teachers College, Columbia University, and completed her Bachelor's degree in English at the University of California, Los Angeles. She has worked with theaters and performing arts organizations across New York City since 2011, including organizations such as the American Associates of the National Theatre, Lincoln Center Corporate Fund, Signature Theatre Company, and Second Stage Theatre. Her professional theatre career began over ten years ago in Los Angeles, where she has been a company member at organizations including Theatre West and the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum. She is also known for her tenure on the cult classic soap opera, "Santa Barbara," in which she portrayed Samantha Capwell.
Lee Whitmore Named Vice President For Education Outreach And Social Entrepreneurship At Berklee College Of Music
Berklee College of Music announces that Lee Whitmore has been named vice president for education outreach and social entrepreneurship. Whitmore, who assumes his new role today, will preside over the Berklee City Music program in Boston and 46 network sites across the country, working closely with Curtis Warner, associate vice president for education outreach/executive director for City Music, and Krystal Banfield, dean for City Music.
Whitmore has led or served as a senior contributor to teams committed to expanding the role of music, education, and technology to positively affect the lives of children and adults. In his most recent position at Avid Technology, where he served as a member of the senior marketing leadership team, he was instrumental in the application of audio and video music in elementary, secondary, and post-secondary schools worldwide. Prior to that, he served as founder and general manager of Korg's SoundTree division, and as education vice president of Cablevision's Power to Learn initiative.
Ole Hires Randall Foster As Senior Director Of Creative Licensing
ole, one of the world's foremost rights management companies, has hired Randall Foster, formerly of Naxos of America, as Senior Director of Creative Licensing. Foster will join ole's Synchronization & Licensing department, reporting directly to Chief Operating Officer Lou Ragagnin. He will be based in Nashville.
Foster got his start at MTV Latin America, where he worked in licensing and copyright clearance. He moved to Naxos of America in July 2005, working his way up from Sales and Marketing Representative, to Licensing and Business Development Manager, to Director of Licensing and Business Development Manager. Along the way, he also launched specialty imprint record label Naxos Wind Band Classics, serving as Label Manager and handling A&R. Foster holds a Bachelor of General Studies degree in History with a Minor in Sociology and a Minor Emphasis in Music History from The University of Kansas, as well as a Master's of Music Business and Entertainment Industries from the University of Miami.
Shazam Announces Appointment of Lauren Zalaznick to Shazam Board of Directors
Shazam announced that respected industry pioneer, Lauren Zalaznick, has joined the Shazam Board as an independent Board member. Ms. Zalaznick's extensive experience working in the television and film industries, including her tenure as Executive Vice President NBCUniversal, will add additional expertise and strength to the company.
During the last three years, Shazam has successfully expanded its service in North America to include television programming and advertising. Shazam-enabled advertising has now been launched in Europe, Australia and Latin America and the company plans to further expand its offering in the coming year.
