Alibaba's Gao Xiaosong To Participate In Keynote Q&A At Midem 2016
Mr. Gao will talk about why the major Western record labels have failed in addressing the East Asian music markets as well as Alibaba Music Group plans for global music market
Midem, the tradeshow bringing together the entire music ecosystem to Cannes this June, has confirmed Gao Xiaosong, Chairman of China's Alibaba Music Group, as a keynote participant for a Q&A session. Mr. Gao will talk about why the major Western record labels have failed in addressing the East Asian music markets, especially China, which he attributes to differences in fan culture. He will also talk about how the Alibaba Music Group will disrupt and catalyse not only the Chinese music industry, but also the international music business.
Gao Xiaosong is Chairman of Alibaba Music Group, the newly created music division of the giant Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba. He was previously a songwriter and singer and became a campus folk song icon. He then founded Rye Music, an independent music label, with his long-time partner Song Ke. He subsequently served as Managing Director at Hengda Music. In 2015, he joined Alibaba along with Song Ke. Together, they are aiming to make Alibaba Music Group a world-class music institution within three years.
