Sue Tucker - Meant For You
Artist: Sue Tucker (www.suetucker.com)
Title: Meant For You
Genre: Jazz Vocal
You all know 'A Foggy Day' by George and Ira Gershwin, don't you? Well, you don't know Sue Tucker's swift bit of alright on the subject. Like a confident Sinatra who actually sings his near-scats, Sue gives her jazz best to this. Complete with frolicsome drum solo from Brett Forberg. Yeah, Sue puts herself up against some fine supporting players. She's no fool.
And, thankfully, she doesn't just have the one sound that then plagues the rest of the cd, good or bad. No, just switching to the next Cole Porter favorite, 'You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To', we are treated to that old combo power of the soft electric guitar, the sweet swelling trumpet that never loses its temper. Half the battle of being a good vocalist is having the best combo band you can find laying in wait behind your bushes. These things are happening here.
Before you get to 'Easy Street', make sure that you've had a good day at the office. The music is low, blue, but the vocals have a heart-shaped smile in them somehow. She's got take your shoes off music, and you just wanna say, thanks, baby.
Oh, Sue does make jazz standards fun. Nothing new, nothing life-threatening, nothing larger than Vegas. Just an intimate little album that lowers the lights, puts the electric blanket right on.
