In July of 1999, Heather Johnson launched the music and arts publicity company, OutWord Bound. Through OutWord Bound, Johnson has handled public relations for a wide range of cutting-edge musicians, art galleries, fine dining establishments and large special events such as the 2000 Next Music Festival, a three-day pop/rock showcase for unsigned bands held in Nashville, Tenn.

The entrepreneur is currently shifting gears to pursue a call to write more than press releases. As a freelance writer, Johnson contributes features to Audio Media magazine and several Nashville-based publications, including The Rage, The City Paper, Nashville Woman and Sensored. She also covers live music for America Online’s Local Network, Digital City and music industry news for MusicDish.

Johnson has served on the Board of Directors for the Nashville Association of Professional Recording Services (NAPRS) since 1996 and has acted as a Vice President for the organization since 1999. She also volunteers her time to the annual Nashville Music Awards.

Prior to launching OutWord Bound, Johnson held a PR position at Nic Of Time Communications, a full-service firm catering to the recording studio and pro-audio community. Before that, she served as studio coordinator for Nashville’s legendary Woodland Studios.
