Shelly Harris, an interview/review contributor to the Midwest Beat
--and author of its music law advice column and "Sports & Music Connection"
series, received her BS degree (with highest distinction) from Indiana
University. While at IU she was the recipient of the Indiana Outstanding
Future Educator Award, the Mintz Scholarship, and the IU Women Outstanding
Academic Achievement Award. She later received her JD from the Valparaiso
University School of Law (IN) and is admitted to the Illinois Bar.
In her other role as a music critic/journalist, Shelly has contributed to
national/international music publications such as Kerrang!, Circus, and
Rockbill, as well as local publications such as The Times, The Illinois
Entertainer, Night Rock News, The Indiana Rocker, and many others. She also
served as the assistant editor at Chicago Soundz Magazine and FACES magazine
in New York.
After a stint as a bank attorney/trust officer, Shelly began a private
practice in 1999, concentrating in music law, estate settlements, and
residential real estate closings. In her spare time, Shelly (who also teaches
Professional Writing at Indiana University NW) enjoys live music and sporting
events, reading, travelling, and biking/roller-skating with her son, Adrian.
