Anne Freeman, The Aspiring Songwriter® Archive of Articles
Anne Freeman is songwriter, song plugger and publisher. She is a member of ASCAP, and has held memberships is The Recording Academy, the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), the Association of Independent Music Publishers, and served as a Board member of the New Jersey Country Music Association (NJCMA). She writes Country, Christian and children's music, and is actively pitching to Nashville publishers and independent artists, and is developing her independent publishing companies, Nada Love Song Music and Windward Music.
Anne was a columnist for the "Country Music Scene," a monthly publication of the New Jersey Country Music Association, where she wrote a monthly songwriting column and interviews with Country artists and songwriters.
Anne served as the executive producer of First Glance (Rinse The Dish Records), the debut CD of "Easy Country" Artist and Songwriter Barbara Harley. Recorded at Nashville's Bayou Studios Inc, First Glance features the original songs of
Barbara Harley and her co-writers, Kim Jakubicki and Al Lind. Barbara's first single, "First Glance," charted in Europe for four months.
Anne served as the volunteer coordinator of the Princeton, NJ, Chapter of Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) for over six years, where she organized and taught songwriting workshops, peer song critiques, performance events, seminars. She also organized a monthly music business lecture called "The Princeton Songwriters Presents: This Business of Music," featuring area music business professionals.
NSAI members Spook Handy, longtime host of the Spook Handy Show Open Mic and Associate Writer for MusicDish, and performing songwriter Arlon Bennett took over as co-coordinators of the thriving NSAI Chapter when Anne resigned in 2004.
Anne began her affiliation with MusicDish by designing the "Songwriters In The New Millennium" songwriter survey with MusicDish co-founder and publisher Eric de Fontenay and co-founder Sounni de Fontenay. From there, she was invited to create the SongWork column on MusicDish in 2002, with the intent of presenting the music business from the distinct songwriter/publisher perspective.
In 2003, Anne accepted the position of Associate Editor of MusicDish, and in 2004 she was invited to assume the helm of MusicDish as Editor in Chief, a position she currently holds. Anne is also responsible for recruiting and developing writers for MusicDish.
As editor in chief of MusicDish, Anne focuses on educating readers about: trends in the music industry; new services to assist independent songwriters and artists; and information regarding important life-style and health issues connected to the music industry, such as the MusicPro insurance series for music industry participants. MusicDish also actively promotes independent artists through CD reviews and artist spotlights.
Anne continues the MusicDish tradition of providing an open forum for opinions and debate by publishing numerous "open posts" submitted by MusicDish readers.
Anne is the founder and president of The Aspiring Songwriter®, the umbrella company through which she conducts her many responsibilities and activities.
