Polar Levine, Polarity/1 Archive of Articles
Polar Levine has had multiple careers as musician/composer, graphic designer, performance artist, visual artist and actor.
He's not really a journalist, but he's been playing one the internet since journalist/filmmaker/author Danny Schechter asked him to create the pop culture wing of MediaChannel.org that resulted in popCULTmedia.com.
His column called "Yankin' The Food Chain" is now on polarity1.com, and his commentary on music and media have been distributed all over the web.
As POLARITY/1 and as one half of AUDIOPLASM, he's released four CDs. Polar's music is about groove, texture and evidence of human interference.
Musical obsessions alternate between songs (Prettier Than You & Yankin' The Food Chain) and instrumentals (Speechless & Audioplasm: Heavy Meadow). The songs are topical and visually graphic with multi-layered meanings. Grooves are based on homemade loops, scraps of noise lost and found, odd tonal events and live playing. Stories, delerium and political statements are digitally gargled, sung and rapped over cut & paste funky electronica and other genre-bending recipes.
His music has been licensed for four films and choreographed by New York's Battery Dance Company.
His political songs have been regularly featured on Democracy Now and other politically-oriented radio shows nationwide.
