Dan Engel grew up and currently lives in the suburban hamlet of Ridgewood, New Jersey. Dan fell in love with China and its language about a decade ago when he was exposed to Peter Hessler's and Mark Salzberg's writings on their experiences living there. Since then, Dan has been studying Mandarin, devouring fiction and non-fiction regarding China, and finding any opportunity to travel East, volunteering for NBC Sports at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, studying abroad in Hangzhou, and most recently teaching English in southwestern Chengdu. His passion for the language and the culture, paired with his love of sharing and discovering new music brought him to MusicDish*China where he has the extraordinary opportunity to be in contact with both of those worlds. When he's not studying Mandarin or trying to find new music, Dan is probably reading, walking his dog, or playing Frisbee.
