Living Colour @ Harpers Ferry, Boston - July 30, 2010
While his signature dreads may be gone, Glover still has ambitious control of his sweetly pinched pipes

"It has been a while. Has it not?"

Such was the non-musical question with which Living Colour front man Corey Glover kicked off the diversely musical onslaught that is a LC live show. And though it has been over two decades since this real rock band came together and set the world on its political anthem ear, as well as some time also since they last landed in Boston, the fearsome foursome sounded almost as good as ever.

While his signature dreads may be gone, Glover still has ambitious control of his sweetly pinched pipes; axe man Vernon Reid is as furious as ever; Doug Wimbush's emotive low-end still moves a crowd (and him!) and Berklee grad Will Calhoun literally lit up the stage with his percussive pyrotechnics. From the explosive and extended intro to a clap-along "Funny Vibe" to the time-ly closer "Time's Up", from the all-encompassing and always provocative love song "Bi" to the anti-romantic groove of "Love Rears It's Ugly Head", from the atonal pound of "Decadance" (which had Glover twirling his mic chord instead of his hair) to a rid-mic "Glamour Boys" (of which Glover smilingly complained "for 20 years, I've been shakin' my ass to this fuckin' song!") and from a slithering "Memories Can't Wait" to a screaming "Cult of Personality," the band roared through old classics and new impressions of the world they have been commenting on for over two decades.

Despite some interpersonal kinks that may still prick at the actor-turned singer (see "Platoon"- really!), Glover may have said it best during "Behind the Sun" when he sang "We're still here. You're still here." Though the world may be a bit darker than it was when they began, the Colour still lives!
