Interview With Finland-based Guitarist Pauli Saksa
Fusing jazz, rock, and pop "Fragments & Fusion" marks debut of guitarist Pauli Saksa
 You have a new album, "Fragments & Fusion." How would you describe it?
Saksa A collection of jazz/pop/rock instrumentals. Likely, it is fairly easy listening as melodic lines have been important, and the tunes are clearly structured. I feel that the jazzy main category arises from the chordal progressions, voicings, and the improvisational touch.
What years did you attend Oulunkyla Pop/Jazz Conservatory and how would you describe that experience?
Saksa I attended the conservatory from early to late '70s. It was a really important phase of my development. The teachers were simply great and very encouraging.
Do you perform live often in Finland?
Saksa No, I do not perform live. Just sometimes in private occasions. I prefer composing and recording, producing.
Besides being a musician, what do you do for a living?
Saksa I am geophysicist in education, which is my primary profession, and I run own consultancy in the subsurface engineering sector. That choice has provided a possibility to complement life with musical challenges and as free-time guitarist. I keep these roles separate although the term "rock" may combine them.
What are your plans for your next album?
Saksa There is quite a bit of composed material which would be then an album of rock/pop songs, but I should find a lyricist first to complete them. The other choice is a second similar rock-jazz instrumental album or EP; some pieces have been composed, and they seem to escape towards more aggressive and non-smooth paths. Related News from Mi2N:
