Artist: The LeeVees
Event Title: ”The LeeVees At Jeweltide”
Event Venue: TT The Bear’s, Cambridge, MA
Event Date: December 21, 2006

With Dreidels and Dice over and the Matzo Ball looming in the future, Boston-area Jews needed something to do to mark the seventh night of their annual winter carnival. Fortunately, the folks at JDub Records had just what the Jewish doctor ordered: a night of musical mayhem known as Jeweltide. Tucked in amongst the silky swirls of Shtreiml, the sometimes silly sweeps of Yiddish rapper SoCalled and the multi-cultural rhythms of Golem - not unlike the jelly in sufganiot - was the locally-inspired duet known as The LeeVees (i.e., Guster’s Adam Gardner and The Zambonis’ Dave Schneider).

Speaking of donuts, the dynamic duo ingratiated the crowd with this traditional treat before launching into the recently-heard-on-Gray’s-Anatomy “Latka Clan.” Keeping in the fried potato vein, the LeeVees then took the crowd’s top-ical temperature by asking the musical question, “Apple Sauce or Sour Cream?”, before inviting members of Harry and the Potters to back them up for the bouncy tribute to the Sunshine State, “At the Time Share.”

After the rockin’ spelling lesson, “How Do You Spell Channukkah?”, the band paid their musical homage to kugel (noodle pudding) and then presented their first non-seasonal song, the Jow Jackson-esque “Jewish Stars.” Keeping on this tributed track, the boys then memorialized the late great Punk Yid Joey Ramone (nee Jeffery Hyman) with the four-counted punder “Gelt Melts.” As this was a festival show, the band closed with the instant encore “Goyim Friends,” a well-intended “us and them” song that welcomed even the non MOTTs with musical bon mots.
