Wurld Media Appoints New Board Member
Wurld Media announced the addition of Jason S. Berman to the company's board of directors. Wurld Media, the creators of the legal peer-to-peer (P2P) network, Peer Impact, made the announcement following recent news that they had secured both a new financial team and internal general counsel. The company says that they will continue to actively pursue new talent for their expanding team as a result of persistent growth.
Jay Berman brings with him a tremendous set of accomplishments and industry expertise. His background includes over 30 years in the music industry, beginning in the early 1970s as a United States senate aide, working on the Copyright Act of 1976. From there, he went to Warner Communications where he was responsible for representing Warner labels on the Board of the Recording Industry Association of America. In 1987, he was appointed president and chief executive of the RIAA and in 1992, he was elected chairman of the RIAA and served in that capacity until 1999, when he left to work as special counsel for trade to President Clinton. He was elected chairman of IFPI in 1999 and served in London for six years. He is now based in New York as chairman emeritus of the IFPI. The IFPI is the trade organization of the international recording industry; its members consist of more than 1,500 record producers and distributors worldwide and include affiliate national groups in over 46 countries.
Launched in August of 2005, Peer Impact is the first P2P network to have secured licensing agreements with all four major record labels as well as many independent labels and which allows members to share songs legally via its network. Users simply leave their computers on, and if they are selected as a source of fulfillment for purchases over the network, they receive credit towards future purchases. The service also rewards its members for actively promoting their favorite content to others both in and out of the network. Peer Impact continues to expand its catalog of digital content to include the leading publishers from the video game, motion picture and audiobook industries
"Digital distribution has forever changed the way that consumers discover and purchase their music and other entertainment content. Peer Impact has been at the forefront of providing users with a legal way to share that content," said Jay Berman, "I am very pleased to be joining a team who is committed to creating the future".
