ASCAP Appoints Attorney Morton David Goldberg As East Coast Ombudsman To Advise ASCAP Board On Distribution Matters
ASCAP President and Chairman Marilyn Bergman announced that the noted intellectual property attorney, Morton David Goldberg, has been appointed East Coast ombudsman to the Society's board of directors.
Mr. Goldberg was selected by the board in September to succeed the late former Judge Harold R. Tyler Jr., who served as ASCAP East Coast ombudsman until his passing last May. ASCAP's West Coast ombudsman is attorney Seth Hufstedler of the Los Angeles firm of Morrison & Foerster.
The ombudsmen periodically examine the design and conduct of ASCAP's survey of performances, are available for consultation with members, and give the board of directors their independent advice on these matters. ASCAP is the only U.S. performing rights organization to provide this distinguished level of distribution consultation to its Board and members.
Mr. Goldberg, a partner in the New York firm of Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman, is known internationally for his expertise in copyright, trademark and related intellectual property counseling, negotiation, litigation and legislation. He practices in both traditional intellectual property areas and the newer technologies of software, databases and the Internet. Mr. Goldberg has served as counsel in countless intellectual property cases, has written extensively on these issues, has served at meetings WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) in a variety of roles, and is a past chair of the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law, and a past president of The Copyright Society of the USA.
Commenting on the appointment of Morton David Goldberg, Marilyn Bergman said, "The ASCAP Board and ASCAP members are fortunate to have an ombudsman of Mr. Goldberg's caliber. He is experienced, learned and knowledgeable in all aspects of intellectual property."
