BMI Promotes Diane J. Almodovar To Vice President, Writer/Publisher Relations, Miami
Diane J. Almodovar has been promoted to vice president, Writer/Publisher Relations, BMI Miami, it was announced by Del Bryant, president and CEO of the performing rights organization. She was previously assistant vice president.
In her expanded role, Almodovar will continue to be responsible for developing and maintaining BMI's relationships with Latin songwriters, composers and publishers across the country, as well as for overseeing the annual Latin Music Awards ceremony. She opened BMI's Miami office in 1998 and has expanded the department to include staff members in New York, Puerto Rico and Los Angeles. Over the last 13 years, she has overseen the signing of an impressive roster of artists, including Juanes, Shakira, Estéfano, Juan Luis Guerra, Elvis Crespo, Thalía, Luis Miguel, Jennifer Lopez, Ivy Queen, Wisin y Yandel, Hector "El Father," Calle 13 and Pepe Aguilar.
"This promotion recognizes Diane's outstanding accomplishments in growing BMI's Latin repertoire. Her understanding of developing trends, such as reggaeton and Latin urban, has permitted us to continuously be at the cutting-edge of Latin music. She has assured BMI's leading position as Latin music moves from a cultural phenomenon to emerge as a major force in the mainstream of American music," said Bryant.
"Diane has built a superb team of Latin music executives who bring expertise in all of the vibrant musical styles from Mexico, the Caribbean and South America, as well as the explosive success of home-grown artists right here in North America," states Phil Graham, senior vice president, Writer/Publisher Relations, to whom she reports.
Almodovar joined BMI in 1993 as director of Latin Music. She was promoted to senior director in 1996 and to assistant vice president in 2000. Prior to BMI, she was publishing director of Caribbean Waves Music and Crossing Borders Music, a division of RMM Records & Video Corp., where she supervised the company's publishing activities and worked in an A&R capacity for such artists as Tito Nieves, Cheo Feliciano, and the legendary Celia Cruz and Tito Puente. She also served as a personal manager and as an independent promotion and publicity agent for other Latin recording artists.
Almodovar currently serves on the Latin Grammy committees of both NARAS and LARAS, the Latin Recording Academy, and is a past board member of the Miami Chapter of the Recording Academy. She received her bachelor's degree in business administration and marketing management from Baruch College in New York City.
