SNOCAP Taps Music Technology Attorney Jennifer Burke Sylva As Senior Director Of Business And Legal Affairs
SNOCAP, the first end-to-end provider of digital licensing and copyright management services for the digital music marketplace, announced its appointment of Jennifer Burke Sylva to the position of senior director of business and legal affairs, a new position. Sylva will report to Christian L. Castle, SNOCAP's senior vice president of business and legal affairs and general counsel.
"Jennifer is a superb lawyer with a strong business sense and is one of the most hard-working people I know," Castle said. "I have known Jennifer since she was with Liquid Audio, and she has always demonstrated a deep knowledge of both the online and offline music industry, as well as a scholarly understanding of copyright. We're very fortunate to have her join the SNOCAP team."
"Jennifer brings with her an extensive understanding of the intellectual property landscape, which will make a great contribution to SNOCAP's legal and business department," said Rusty Rueff, chief executive officer for SNOCAP.
"I'm thrilled to join the SNOCAP team and play an active role in completing the business deals that will bring new online retailers into the digital entertainment space, provide new distribution opportunities for artists as well as new legitimate alternatives for music fans," Sylva said. "SNOCAP provides a fundamentally new way for music retailers, rightsholders and consumers to interact online, and I look forward to helping make the SNOCAP vision a reality."
Sylva most recently served as director of business and legal affairs at Sony Connect Inc., where her duties included obtaining rights from major and independent record labels and other rights holders, drafting and negotiating music and video content, software and technology license agreements, and providing legal advice to multiple business units within the company.
While lead counsel at Sony Connect, Jennifer structured and negotiated a number of key legal deals, including the first ever "Concert in the Sky" with Sheryl Crow and United Airlines. She also oversaw the legal logistics for featured performances from Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Tsunami Relief, the first ever live performance, direct-to-download events. While at Sony Connect, Sylva worked with numerous production companies, television networks, recording artists, publishers, and major labels to obtain the rights to live performances of newly recorded content for sale in the online environment.
Previously, Sylva worked for Redwood City-based Liquid Audio, Inc. and was also employed by the Law Offices of David R. Sylva. Sylva holds a Juris Doctorate from the Santa Clara University School of Law, where she served as an editor for the High Technology Law Journal and was awarded the First Place Nathan Burkan Memorial Writing Award by ASCAP for her article about digital distribution and content delivery.
