Torneryd To Lead New EMI Music Scandinavian Organization
EMI Music announced that Asa Torneryd, currently managing director of EMI Music Sweden, has been appointed to the position of president, EMI Music Scandinavia, effective immediately and reporting to Jean Francois Cecillon, chairman and CEO of EMI Music Continental Europe. Torneryd will lead a new Scandinavian organization which will support the local operations in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, focused on A&R, marketing and promotion whilst establishing a new approach to creative and commercial co-operation in the region. Further announcements on the team structure will be made shortly.
Torneryd was appointed managing director of EMI Music Sweden in 2002, where she has built a strong country team with creative A&R skills and business acumen and entered new and exciting download and mobile channels. Prior to this Torneryd was managing director, Virgin Sweden, having re-joined the EMI Music group in 1999 from Zomba Records where she was managing director from 1997, setting up Zomba's Scandinavian operations based out of Stockholm. Torneryd developed her early career with Virgin Sweden where she had spent several years before being promoted to marketing manager in 1993.
Cecillon said: "The time is right in the Scandinavian region to recognize how the fast changing markets and new consumer trends will continue to challenge the way we develop artists and engage with our consumers in the future. In establishing EMI Music Scandinavia, we are starting a fresh organization that will continue our commitment to developing local and international talent in the region and move quickly into new business models.
"Asa was my best choice to head this new team. She is a proven music company MD and can claim some great artist successes throughout her career, including Mando Diao, Hakon Hellstrom, BWO and Melody Club. Asa is no stranger to leading change, having managed the combination of the EMI and Virgin teams in Sweden in 2002. I am confident that, with her depth of knowledge and her hands-on style of management, Asa will embrace this new challenge and produce great results for our artists, our company and our people."
Torneyrd said: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to help shape the future of our business in this way. Our industry has moved on and relationships are ever changing. Local knowledge supported by regional expertise can only benefit all of our partners in taking new and innovative music and products to our consumers. I am looking forward to getting closer to our artists and teams across the region and sharing with you our vision for the future."
