Amanda Marks Appointed To Executive Vice President & General Manager Of Digital Distribution For Universal Music Group Distribution
Universal Music Group Distribution (UMGD), a division of Universal Music Group, the world's leading music company, has appointed Amanda Marks to the newly created position of executive vice president & general manager of digital distribution. The announcement was made by UMGD President Jim Urie, to whom Ms. Marks will report. Previously, Ms. Marks served as executive vice president of eLabs, UMG's new media and technologies division.
In this expanded role, Ms. Marks will be responsible for managing UMG's digital business, bringing even greater focus to the task of growing the company's revenue in this rapidly evolving area through directing product development, coordinating marketing activities, and building the company's relationships with key digital service providers and retailers. Ms. Marks will work closely with all of UMG's labels, business partners, and eLabs on all digital business efforts.
"Building on our dramatic growth in digital distribution over the last several years, we are expanding our efforts significantly to offer our labels and partner companies the broadest array of services in the industry," stated Mr. Urie. "And there is no one better suited to lead this effort for us than Amanda. She has been at the forefront of the digital revolution and evolution, and has played an integral part in many of our key digital initiatives. She's a consummate innovator, who knows how to continuously reinvent the business to drive growth, and we are thrilled that she'll apply her experience and expertise at UMGD."
"The explosion of new distribution platforms has created a myriad of opportunities for our artists, labels and business partners," added Ms. Marks. "This new centralized role will help us identify, create and deliver even more of these opportunities to all of them. I am grateful to Doug Morris (chairman & CEO), Zach Horowitz (president & COO) and Larry Kenswil (president, eLabs) for their continued support and confidence in me, and am looking forward to helping UMGD grow even further, enabling our artists' and partner companies' music to reach even more consumers online."
Prior to joining UMG, Ms. Marks helped launch Jimmy and Doug's Farmclub.com, where she served as general manager responsible for its daily operations including finance, business and legal affairs, business development and human resources. Farmclub.com was a frontrunner in interactive convergence -- an innovative company which integrated a web site, television show and record label. Jimmy and Doug's Farmclub.com was a subsidiary of Universal Music Group. Her background also includes stints with Universal Music Group's business & legal affairs department, Mercury Records, Rock-It Cargo USA, Viscount Airlines and their affiliated companies, and as an associate with McKenna & Cuneo in Los Angeles.
