IMPALA European Music Sales Award
On Sunday 21st January the Independent Music Companies Association – IMPALA recognized the major accomplishment of Katie Melua's Piece by Piece album at MIDEM 2007 in Cannes.
IMPALA President Patrick Zelnik (president of Naïve) and Chairman Martin Mills (chairman of Beggars Group) presented Dramatico Entertainment MD Andrew Bowles with the Impala Multi Platinum European Music Sales Award for Katia Melua's second album, Piece by Piece, which has sold 3.5 million copies.
21-year old Katie Melua has now achieved the accolade of being the biggest selling female artist in the UK for two years running. Piece By Piece was released by Dramatico in September 2005 and it went straight to number one in the UK, followed by #1 in Norway, Denmark and Holland, #2 in Ireland, #2 in Iceland, South Africa 3, #4 in Poland and #5 in Germany giving an overall chart position of #2 on the Billboard European Top 100 Chart.
The IMPALA awards, aimed at independent music companies, recognize the achievements of new talent. They were set up to celebrate success, which begins before 1 million sales, and to promote cultural diversity across Europe. Award levels are Silver 30K, Gold 100K, Diamond 250K, Platinum 500K, Double Platinum 1 million
