Event Review: Aces High
Rock City, Camilla, CA, September 17, 2007
Artist: Aces High
Venue: Rock City, Camilla, CA, September 17, 2007
Genre: Rock n Roll
Thousand Oaks, California-based rock and roll outfit Aces High played the newest venue in Camarillo, CA, called Rock City on Friday night, September 14th. This show was in support of their debut self-titled CD, which is now for sale on their website located at www.aceshighmusic.com
The young band came out with their guns or guitars flaring. Guitarist and lead vocalist AJ Anagnos cast a big shadow over the crowd with his tall, lanky frame. AJ and guitar sensation Mark Borbas complimented each other nicely throughout the half hour set. At one point, they pulled off a very difficult stage trick whereby they simultaneously played their own and each others guitars! Not the easiest trick to pull off. And they did it flawlessly.
With drummer John Anagnos and bass player Stephen Cook pounding out a fast beat for the first few songs, the band seemed to grow onstage as each song unfolded. Towards the end of the set, the band slowed things down just a bit to play their #1 hit on mp3.com.au, "Shades of Grey," to the excited young audience that had gathered to hear their favorite new band play. AJ's vocals on the song were very heartening and endeared him to the throngs of young girls at his beckon.
The band also debuted their tribute song to the American Troops "On Thin Ice,” which is being offered as a free download to military personnel to help support our Armed Forces and give something back for the men and women in uniform who are fighting for their lives every day.
Aces High will be opening up for the Misfits at the Majestic Ventura Theater on Friday November 9th, 2007.
