Senators Introduce Visa Processing Bill
Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) have introduced the Arts Require Timely Service (ARTS) bill in the Senate to expedite the visa processing times for foreign performers, including our Canadian membership.
The bill will guarantee that all visas for foreign performers will be processed within forty-five days. If the visa is not processed within thirty days, it will go straight into the Premium Processing Service (PPS) for immediate processing within fifteen days, without the usual $1,000 processing fee.
This legislation, and its companion in the House introduced by Rep. Berman, will end these bureaucratic barriers and make it easier for our Canadian brothers and sisters to perform in the United States, in the same way that American musicians can perform abroad.
