Universal Music Leads Field With 29 Brit Nominations

Universal Music, the UK's largest music group, is leading the field with 29 nominations for the Brit Awards 2008, its highest-ever tally.

Reflecting the company's success with talent discovery and A&R, Universal's list of 29 nominations covers 16 artists across all three of the company's front line pop labels, Polydor, Island and Mercury.

The full list of Universal Music UK artists nominated is:

Mika (four nominations - British Male Solo Artist, British Album, British Breakthrough Act, British Single)
Take That (four nominations - British Group, British Album, British Live Act, British Single)
Kate Nash (three nominations - British Female Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act, British Single)
Kaiser Chiefs (three nominations - British Group, British Live Act, British Single)
Klaxons (two nominations - British Live Act, British Breakthrough Act)
Arcade Fire (two nominations - International Group, International Album)
Eagles (two nominations - International Group, International Album)
Girls Aloud (British Group)
PJ Harvey (British Female Solo Artist)
Timbaland (International Male)
Rufus Wainwright (International Male)
Kanye West (International Male)
Feist (International Female)
Rihanna (International Female)
Sugababes (British Single)
Mutya Buena (British Single)

Universal Music outperformed the UK market in 2007, recording its best-ever market shares. It accounted for 32.7% of the albums sold in the UK (up 2.7% on 2006) and 32.2% of the singles. The company released seven of the 10 most successful albums of the year, including the number one - Amy Winehouse's 1.85m-selling Back To Black. Other Universal Music albums in the Top 10 of 2007 were Mika's global smash 'Life In Cartoon Motion', Take That's 'Beautiful World', Eagles' 'Long Road Out Of Eden', Kaiser Chiefs' 'Yours Truly, Angry Mob', Timbaland's 'Shock Value' and Rihanna's 'Good Girl Gone Bad'.
