Why did you decide to attend ASCAP NY Sessions?

I attended the ASCAP LA Sessions for the first time in 2008 and absolutely loved the experience. Getting to meet other songwriters, music professionals and companies was a great eye-opener for me. Being in a sea of talented songwriter's made me realize how much work I had to do! It made me want to whoop my butt into a higher gear in terms of my songwriting skills.

On the other hand, being around companies offering useful services and music professionals made me appreciate and look forward to opportunities for the future. Since I had such a great experience in LA with the ASCAP convention and since I live in New York, it simply made sense to attend when ASCAP Sessions came to my neighborhood.

What was the most important thing you took away from the one-day conference?

The exposure to useful services for songwriters and musicians! This time in a more condensed, manageable amount. The LA sessions were great, but at the same time overwhelming for a first-time attendee. So many booths, so many people; I ended up with so many business cards, brochures, and CDs after the conference was over and it just became a pile of stuff that went mostly untouched. With the one-day NY session, because the information I gathered was minimal/condensed, I was able to follow up more efficiently and better concentrate on the helpful hints I had gathered.

What is the biggest benefit of being an ASCAP member?

The biggest benefit I think is having access to resources as well as ASCAP's willingness to help their members be the best they can be and achieve the most. You feel like you are part of a family, a family that will have your back, and that makes you feel proud to be a member.

What major projects or ambitions do you have lined-up for 2009?

I plan to record demos of my unused songs for other artists and start expanding my song catalogue for my publishing company, Just Try and Make Me Music! It's a first-time endeavor for me so I am quite excited about going through the experience.

As for myself, for Sinem Saniye the artist, I've just made a Music Video called "Are We In Love" from my debut album "When I Don't Sleep.." and plan to release it to TV stations across the nation, and some channels abroad like MTV Turkey and Europe have requested the video, so that is exciting.

College radio promo for the record "When I Don't Sleep.." is coming up as is a remix for one of the dance songs on the CD and an East-Coast US Tour for May-June 2009. My other ambition is to play at Hotel Cafe in LA in early May 2009! It's always been my dream, and I hope soon will become a reality.
