Marilyn Bergman To Step Down As President And Chairman Of ASCAP After 15 Years

Three-time Academy Award-winning songwriter Marilyn Bergman announced her decision to step down as President and Chairman of the Board of ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers). Her successor will be elected by the ASCAP Board of Directors during their next meeting later this month.

Bergman was the first woman to be elected to the ASCAP Board of Directors and was named President and Chairman of the Board in 1994. She will continue to serve as an active Board Member.

Bergman noted that she and her writing partner and husband, Academy Award-winning songwriter Alan Bergman, have a number of new projects in the works which require her focus. "Alan has always been supportive of the time that my ASCAP Presidency required. But with so much exciting work before us, I feel it's time that I fully devote myself to my first calling: writing. So I look forward to shifting my energy back to our work, while having the privilege to continue to serve ASCAP and my fellow music creators."

The Bergmans have just completed work on Steven Soderbergh's film, The Informant, with composer Marvin Hamlisch, and are currently working on two musical theatre projects, one with Marvin and one with Michel Legrand. They are also at work on Visions of America: A Photo Symphony Celebrating the Sites and Songs of Democracy with renowned photographer Joseph Sohm and composer Roger Kellaway. This was premiered at the Kimmel Center-Verizon Hall on January 25, 2009 in Philadelphia with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops.


President & CEO Gary Churgin To Continue To Lead HFA

The Harry Fox Agency (HFA) announced that its President & CEO, Gary Churgin, has accepted a contract extension to continue to lead the organization through 2011. The organization's governing Board of Directors unanimously voted to extend Churgin's contract, confirming the work of he and his team in transforming HFA to become a key player in the digital music marketplace.

Churgin was first appointed the President and CEO of HFA in January 2001. Since then, HFA has expanded its offerings, adding licensing for online subscription services, lyrics, ringtones, digital background music, Express Live, and more to its traditional mechanical licensing business. HFA's critical role in the digital music arena was recognized by the music industry trade magazine Billboard in their 2006 "Digital Music Power Players" list - HFA was the only publishing-related entity to be included.

During this time, HFA transformed its technology systems and business processes, adding new online applications for publishers and licensees through a new registered user area of www.harryfox.com, including the licensing platform eMechanical, the catalog maintenance tool eSong, and a completely revamped version of Songfile, the popular online licensing store aimed at the smaller-quantity licensee. Along with his senior management team, Churgin has led the drive to improve the interaction and communication with HFA's publishing clients and licensees to better accommodate the needs of everyone from small, home-based businesses to multi-national corporations.


Music Mogul Expands Executive Team With Key Music And Video Game Executives

Music Mogul announces the addition of five executives to their Los Angeles-based organization. Bob Aniello as Chief Operating Officer; Rick Berger as Vice President of Advertising Sales; Vivienne Bosch as Vice President of Promotions; Courtney Taylor as Vice President of Corporate Development & Strategic Alliances; and Jeremy Monroe as Director, Content and Monetization.

Aniello will be responsible for all operations pertaining to the music world. He has over twenty years experience in emerging technology, gaming and interactive fields, and has worked for industry leaders including Electronic Arts, THQ, JAMDAT and Mattel in senior management roles.

Rick Berger, Vice President, Advertising Sales
Berger, along with Vice President of Promotions, Vivienne Bosch, will be developing brand integration programs for advertisers within the Music Mogul world. He has over twenty years experience in sales, brand management, account management and media - with a strong emphasis on marketing to the youth demographic.

Bosch, along with Vice President of Advertising Sales, Rick Berger, will be developing brand integration programs for advertisers within the Music Mogul world. She has over fifteen years experience as a consumer product goods executive building industry leading brands. Bosch has launched major new innovations that generated hundreds of millions of dollars in incremental net sales.

Courtney Taylor, Vice President, Corporate Development & Strategic Alliances
Taylor will be responsible for developing strategic partnerships between Music Mogul and third-party organizations. In a 17-year career spanning film, television, popular music and philanthropy, Taylor has specialized in forging mutually beneficial relationships between businesses, non-profit organizations and the entertainment industry. Her esteemed client roster has included Sony Music, where she worked on Public Relations campaigns for such artists as Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, Destiny's Child and John Mayer.

Jeremy Monroe, Director of Content & Monetization
Monroe is instrumental in designing and implementing a market leading virtual world experience and revenue generating business model, and is responsible for defining new branded products, traffic retention strategies and revenue generating opportunities for Music Mogul's online music network. Having joined Music Mogul from the virtual world giant Sulake, where he was Director of Marketing and Business Development for the their North American operations, Monroe brings critical firsthand experience to his role.


Scott R. Singer Hired As Managing Director And Head Of Media & Entertainment

The Bank Street Group, a leading independent investment bank, announced that it has hired Scott R. Singer as a Managing Director and Head of Media & Entertainment. Singer has originated, structured and executed more than $110 billion of financial and strategic transactions for many of the premier media companies in the industry over the past 20 years. Media & Entertainment is a core focus area for Bank Street alongside its strong industry coverage in Communications, Information Technology, New Energy, Healthcare, and Specialty Finance.

"Investment banking transaction activity, particularly in the cable, broadcasting, digital, and marketing services sectors, is growing by the day. Accordingly, we are very pleased to bring a professional of Scott's caliber to head our Media & Entertainment practice," said Richard Lukaj, Senior Managing Director and Co-Founder of Bank Street. Lionel Ridenour Will Head Malaco's New Urban Music Division

The legendary Malaco Music Group, after 40-plus successful years of making southern rhythm & blues and gospel hits, has tapped industry veteran Lionel Ridenour to head up its new Urban Music Division.

Under his deal with Malaco, Ridenour will also focus on bringing the industry's hottest new urban independent labels to the Music Division. "Our plan is to create a new home for established independent labels as well as provide guidance to new labels," says Ridenour. "Our division is geared up and our team is ready to provide not only distribution but national urban marketing and promotion."

Lionel Ridenour comes to Malaco from the New York-based MusicWerks Online, of which he was co-owner. Established in January of 2008, MusicWerks is a one-stop for music business services including distribution, online marketing, promotion and A&R, and is run by top veterans and tastemakers in the industry who are plugged in to all entertainment related new ideas and upcoming trends.


Todd Moscowitz Joins Warner Bros. Records

Warner Bros. Records announced that Todd Moscowitz has joined Warner Bros. Records as its Executive Vice President. Moscowitz currently serves as CEO of WMG's Independent Label Group (ILG), which includes the Asylum and East West labels. In his new role as EVP of Warner Bros. Records, Moscowitz will bring Asylum to the Warner Bros. family of labels, reporting to Warner Bros. Chairman and CEO Tom Whalley. Moscowitz will continue to serve as CEO of the remainder of ILG, reporting to John Esposito, WEA Corp.'s president and CEO.

Moscowitz will bring his years of experience to Warner Bros. Records where he will oversee the expansion of the label's urban roster. With Asylum as part of the Warner Bros. Records family of labels, Asylum's developing artists will be able to draw upon the proven marketing and promotional expertise of the Warner Bros. team. At the same time, Asylum will serve a valuable A&R and artist development resource for Warner Bros. as it increases Warner Bros.' presence in urban music.


Paul Craig Named Warner Music UK Senior VP Of Artist Partnerships

Warner Music UK announced the appointment of Paul Craig to the newly-created role of Senior Vice President, Artist Partnerships, Warner Music UK. Craig, currently General Manager of Atlantic Records UK, will oversee the full range of artist service capabilities Warner Music UK can deliver beyond recorded music.

Drawing on his extensive experience as a top-flight artist manager, Craig will work closely with all the labels in the WMUK family to help devise activation strategies around their artists' rights. As a pioneer of '360°' agreements with artists, Warner Music has already developed in-house expertise in live, merchandise, brand association, management, sync and direct-to-consumer digital solutions. Craig will build on these practice areas in the UK so labels including Warner Bros Records, Atlantic Records, Rhino, Asylum, sixsevenine, B-Unique, Warner Music Entertainment and 14th Floor can offer their artists full-service, integrated support.


Francis Keeling Appointed Vice President, Digital, At Universal Music Group International

Francis Keeling has been promoted to Vice President, Digital, at Universal Music Group International (UMGI). Keeling, 36, was previously Head of Commercial, Digital, at Universal Music UK, which he joined in 2002.

In his new post, based in London, Keeling will be responsible for managing UMGI's commercial relationships with various business partners, including its ongoing discussions with ISPs about new music services.

Rob Wells commented, "Our international digital business has been the industry standard over the past three years, which is largely thanks to the team which works here. This appointment reflects the excellent business contributions Francis has made, including a key role in developing our partnerships with Nokia, BSkyB and Orange. His promotion is well-deserved."
