Former Interscope And Warner Bros. Executive Kevin Black Joins Global Music Group

Kevin Black has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of Global Music Group. In his new position, Mr. Black will assume overall responsibility for overseeing the creative vision and brand recognition of the label.

"Kevin is one-third owner of Global Music Group along with Mike Wilson and Myself, and is the Chief Operations Officer. He is number one in urban music and we are going to the top," said Mr. Turner. His track record in music has resulted in breaking some of the biggest names in Urban and Hip-Hop over the past decade.

Former Warner Bros. Senior Executive, Mr. Black, exited his post as chairman of urban music at Warner Bros. in November 2008. Two years after joining the label, prior to leaving his post as Vice President of rap at Interscope Records. There he assisted in the multi-platinum success of Eminem, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Eve, Black Eyed Peas, and The Game. Winning the Urban Hit-Maker Award at the 9th Annual Multicultural Prism Awards Gala in 2004, for re-structuring the department and guiding the company to unprecedented success.


Tom Mackay Promoted To Executive Vice President, A&R, Universal Republic Records

Universal Republic Records has promoted Tom Mackay to Executive Vice President of A&R. Formerly, he served as Senior Vice President of A&R for the label.

In this expanded role, Mr. Mackay will be responsible for securing and cultivating new talent in all genres of music for the label. Mr. Mackay will continue to be based in New York City and will report directly to Monte and Avery Lipman.

"Tom is an extremely gifted A&R executive who has demonstrated in every way his commitment to our artists and their music," said Monte Lipman, President and CEO of Universal Republic Records. "He has an amazing ear for talent and possesses invaluable creative insight, nurturing our diverse roster and helping to forge Universal Republic into a vital and powerful musical force."


Airplay Direct Appoints Scott Welch To The Post Of VP Special Projects

"Scott Welch is a very talented, creative and tenacious music industry veteran. He brings a strong history of successes and experience to the AirPlay Direct management team. Scott has been a very valuable member of the AirPlay Direct Advisory Board and we are very excited to now have him officially on the APD management team," said Robert Weingartz, CEO / AirPlay Direct.

Scott Welch, is the President of Scott Welch Management, Inc. based in Nashville. Scott has managed the careers and development of multi- platinum recording artists Alanis Morissette, LeAnn Rimes, Steve Perry, Paula Abdul, Collective Soul, C&C Music Factory, and others that have sold a combined total of over 100 million albums worldwide. Under Scott's direction, Alanis Morrisettes debut album Jagged Little Pill was the largest selling debut album in history, with worldwide sales in excess of 34 million records and the winner of seven GRAMMY awards plus numerous critic and sales awards globally. Scott also helped launch MP3.com, Stubhub and is a partner in Highnote, an entertainment online ads network. He currently manages Country/GAC star Mark Wills, Johnny Cooper, The Bart Crow Band, Allison Kaplan and is the Executive Producer of the Conway Twitty musical.


Russ Berger Elected Fellow Of Acoustical Society Of America

Russ Berger, president of Russ Berger Design Group (RBDG), has been named a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA). The announcement of his election was made at the 157th meeting of the Society held in Portland, OR. A Fellow of the ASA is an organizational honor set to recognize an individual who has attained distinction in acoustics or who has rendered outstanding service to acoustics.

"I am humbled and honored that the ASA has elected me as a Fellow for my work in acoustics over the years," says Berger. "Since my days as a studio owner, I have always been fascinated with small room acoustics. It is very rewarding when I hear good sounding audio from a television broadcast or a song on the radio, and know RBDG's acoustical work contributed to that sound."


BIEM Elected Thierry Desurmont To The Chair Of Their Management Committee

On Friday 12 June, in Washington DC, BIEM, the International Organization Representing Mechanical Rights Societies, elected Thierry Desurmont to the Chair of their Management Committee.

Thierry Desurmont is currently Vice President of the SACEM Management Board, CEO of the mechanical rights society SDRM, Chairman of the Board of SORECOP (society administering private audio copying rights). Ms Ursula Sedlaczek, Managing Director of the Austrian society Austro-Mechana, was elected Vice Chairperson.

Thierry Desurmont said: "It is a big challenge to lead this international organisation that is so important to secure that copyright owners receive the best possible remuneration for the use of the reproduction of their works, in this period where both sales and the level of the rates are under pressure."


Alan Pasqua Appointed Chair Of USC Thornton Jazz Studies Dept

Legendary jazz pianist Alan Pasqua has been appointed Chair of USC Thornton School of Music's illustrious jazz studies department. The announcement was made by Dr. Robert Cutietta, dean of the school, who also named two other internationally renowned artists to the jazz studies faculty: saxophonist/composer Bob Mintzer and drummer Peter Erskine.

Additionally, USC Thornton is introducing to its wide range of undergraduate degrees a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Jazz, which will be overseen by Kathleen Grace and Kristin Korb.

"As the new jazz studies chair, Alan brings to the department years of invaluable experience at the highest musical level," said Cutietta. "He is as passionate about teaching as he is about performing. In the seven years he's been on the faculty, he has invigorated the department with his fresh and forward-looking approach to teaching."
