Kerchoonz Signs Key Independent Labels: 4AD, Matador, Rough Trade, XL Recordings
Social Networking and music streaming site Kerchoonz announced an agreement with Europe's largest independent music label group, Beggars Group. The deal will allow users of Kerchoonz free access to around 20,000 tracks from Beggars' significant catalogue. Beggars Group represents the labels XL Recordings, Rough Trade, Matador, and 4AD and whose acts include a diverse selection of award winning artists such as Bon Iver, Jarvis Cocker, Vampire Weekend, British Sea Power, Cat Power, TV On The Radio and Grammy Award Winning 'Adele' to name but a few.
The agreement with the label group represents a major boost to Kerchoonz growing catalogue of top-notch independent music. The Beggars Group catalogue will be available on demand and for free through Kerchoonz ad-funded model that allows labels and musicians to be paid for their media streams. The deal includes music from all labels and artists. Fans will be able to stream and build music playlists and interact with the artist's through the Kerchoonz.com social networking portal.
Ironclad Recordings Signs Armed For Apocalypse
Ironclad Recordings, founded by Unearth vocalist Trevor Phipps, announced the signing of Chico California's Armed For Apocalypse; a band featuring the talents of former members of Will Haven, The Abominable Iron Sloth, and Ghostride.
Ironclad Recordings is set to release Armed For Apocalypse's debut full-length studio album Defeat in the US and Canada on September 15th, 2009 with SOARreleasing this behemoth of an album in Europe. Defeat was recorded during two different sessions in late 2008 at the Pus Cavern in Sacramento, CA and Heirloom Studios in Chico, CA, with Matt Pedri engineering. Mixing and mastering for Defeatwas handled by Eric Stenman (Saves The Day, Will Haven, Senses Fail, Far, Forever The Sickest Kids, Dashboard Confessional, Thrice) with cover art being tackled by renowned artist Matt Loomis, who has done cover art for Abominable Iron Sloth and the Makai in addition to merch designs for Mastodon and The Red Chord.
Metal Blade Records Signs Sweden's Istapp and We Are The End!
Hailing from Blekinge, Sweden on the frozen coasts of the Baltic Sea, are the three warlords that form Istapp. Mordechai von Renvaktar, C. Ashuck von Renvaktar and Fjalar have set out on a campaign to destroy the sun and all of its followers. To this end, Istapp has joined forces (or 'conquered', if you ask the band) with Metal Blade Records to unleash their next vicious assault, Blekinge.
Los Angeles, California's We Are The End has inked a deal with Metal Blade Records! A relatively new addition to the SoCal scene, the band came together in June of 2008 with the timely meeting of Brandyn Love and Shaun-Matthew Paramore, and the eventual addition of vocalist, Spencer Aragon, guitarist Mychal Wright, and drummer David Crough. The band has been locked away in their practice space since April writing their debut full length, which will see an early 2010 release.
Robert Wilson Of The Gap Band Signs With Lucky 7 Records & Lightening Entertainment
Lucky 7 Records & Lightening Entertainment have announced that, "The Godfather of the Bass," Robert Wilson of the Gap Band has signed an album deal with the indie label.
Lucky 7 Records & Lightening Entertainment is a family owned and operated independent label and entertainment group. The label recently signed N E MEANS, and is in negotiations with two other acts they plan to sign by the end of the month. "I am personally proud to have my uncle on the label, Uncle Robert is one of my idols and I am honoured to have him," states Frank Wilson, Chairman and founder of Lucky 7 Records.
Reggae Legend Mabrak Signs New Record Deal With Tropical/Sunset Records
Award-winning roots reggae drumming legend, Mabrak, has signed a new recordings deal to distribute his Mabrak Music company with the Tropical/Sunset Record Label.
The brand new record deal includes the re-releases of up to potentially eight (8) MABRAK catalog titles (The Rootsman, Mabrak Live, Drum Talk, Mirrors Of My Mind, 1000 Years, It Is Electric , Give Thanks & Praise, The Early Years), and the label will release the Rootsman as a front line CD on October 6th this year. The label will also release four (4) other Mabrak catalog titles before the end of this year. The newly released CDs will include brand new tracks not that have not been made available on previous versions and the song listing on the Rootsman CD will vary compared to the original release of the CD. There will also be new remixes and mixes of his popular songs used as promos and giveaways to reggae fans. Also included in this deal will be the release of the Mabrak re-mastered live album along with his award winning and world famous Drum Talk instrumental CD, both to be re released later on this year at Tropical. The 2004 World Reggae Drumming Champion of the World, Mabrak’s The Rootsman will be released as a brand new front line CD under this new deal in October.
