HMV X Tube - Music In Sessions
Music and movie portal Tube announced their first crossover collaboration with HMV Hong Kong on Twitter (@tubehk). Called 'HMV Music in Sessions,' the new webisode series will feature 3 demo songs written by a local singer-songwriter, with fans able to vote for their favorite. In the first webisode, up-and-coming Toto Au songwriter presents his demo songs - "Thank You", "Believe It", and "Jump Off" - for Tube viewers.
It's refreshing to watch an initiative focused on promoting songwriters and their work. Too often, the spotlight falls on the recording/performing artist and the fans can forget where it all begins, with a song. Nor was it set up as a competition or battle as is so often done. Just a platform for songwriters to gain valuable feedback and maybe a break. The fact that a big-name brand like HMV is actively working to expose such local talent is encouraging to say the least.
So 3 cheers to Tube and HMV Hong Kong for thinking outside the box to help nurture their independent local music community.
