City University of Hong Kong Presents Sonic Bloom Hong Kong's first appearance by Japan's newest flagship rock band te'
City University of Hong Kong Band Society will be presenting its 15th Sonic Bloom Annual Performance on Saturday, February 27 at The Hang Out (Holy Cross Path, Sai Wan Ho, HK). Featuring the first Hong Kong appearance by Japan's newest flagship rock band te', the event will also include performances by Dalian's WangWen, local indie rock band Chochukmo, which was featured in our inaugural MusicDish*China Sounds podcast, and reggae/ska group Crazy Lion.
te'
The music of te' is so aggressive and emotional with its heavy sound and tremendous roar. That is one of the reasons why their music was sometimes compared to hardcore music. Not only the heaviness, but they play so delicately a beautiful melody methodically and tightly. To express these two completely different senses at the same time, the music of te' doesn't need vocals at all. One big reason why te' is now getting offers to play in another countries like U.S.A, Asia, is because of their high quality of their stage. Everyone who watches their stage, they won't believe how they play those music with their aggressive stage performances. There is a completely new scene ahead for the audiences who have experienced the music of te'.
WangWen
Wangwen band is considered as one of the Post-rock and Psychedelic representative bands from China. Their blend of ambient and rock comes all the way from their northern hometown of Dalian.
Chochukmo
With the chemistry triggered by different musical interests and thoughts, Chochukmo has been claimed to have created a unique style of their own. With the playful minds and the courages of pushing to limits, they experiment rock music with different elements from jazz to punk, from bossa nova to reggae. The band is known for their passionate and energetic live performance, and the richness in elements delivered in their music.
Crazy Lion
It's not hard to realize that reggae/ska seems to be a bit silent in the local music scene. After a serie of street music concert, a Hong Kong reggae band CRAZY LION has been known to the public. They sing for freedom with a line-up of 7 members playing various instruments like melodica , circuit bend keyboard etc. Some of the lyrics are written in Chinese which you must come to see how such an oriental language mix with the laid back Jamaican riddim.
