BMG US Taps Richard Blackstone As Chief Creative Officer

Music rights company BMG has announced the appointment of Richard Blackstone as its Chief Creative Officer, BMG US. Blackstone will report directly to Hartwig Masuch CEO of BMG and will be based in the company's US headquarters in New York City. In this newly created role Blackstone will oversee the rosters of the recently acquired companies as well as direct the efforts to attract and sign new talent to continue to build on the extraordinary growth over the past year.

BMG covers the entire range of music rights administration and places the needs of songwriters and artists at the core of its business model. Since its founding in late 2008, it has completed a number of major acquisitions including Crosstown Songs America, Cherry Lane Music Publishing Inc, Stage Three Music and Evergreen Copyrights as well as signed a number of prominent artists and songwriters.

In 2007 he broke from WMG and transitioned to new media particularly content driven social entertainment platforms while simultaneously working with the Zac Brown Band and specifically advancing the songwriting career of Wyatt Durette, Zac's main co-writer. This signing marks only one of a long string of successful career signings for Blackstone, having helped launch the musical careers of artists like Linkin Park, Macy Gray, Britney Spears, and many others.


Universal Music Group Promotes Rob Wells To President Of Global Digital Business

Universal Music Group has promoted Rob Wells to the newly created position of President of Global Digital Business. The announcement was made by Lucian Grainge, Co-Chief Executive Officer of UMG, Zach Horowitz, President and Chief Operating Officer of UMG, and Max Hole, Chief Operating Officer of Universal Music Group International (UMGI). Mr. Wells will report directly to Mr. Horowitz and Mr. Hole. Formerly, Mr. Wells served as Senior Vice President of Digital for UMGI.

Based at the company's Santa Monica, CA headquarters, Mr. Wells will work closely with the various divisions of UMG and its business partners to further extend the company's digital strategy and reach across current and emerging platforms. Tasked with global responsibility for the strategic growth initiatives around all of UMG's digital assets, Mr. Wells will drive development and execution of activities in the wireless, online and transactional sectors. He will also be responsible for identifying strategic partnerships and next generation distribution channels to open new revenue streams.


SESAC Names Gregory Riggle Vice President, Industry Relations & Business Communication

Performing rights organization SESAC announced the promotion of Gregory Riggle to Vice President, Industry Relations & Business Communication. Formerly Associate Vice President, Broadcast Licensing, Riggle will now step into the new position of industry and business communication in support of SESAC's key business objectives.

Riggle started his career with SESAC in 1986 in the Broadcast Licensing Department before serving as Vice President in the Writer/Publisher Relations Department. After a stint developing a full-service publishing department for New York-based Sweetfish Enterprises in 1997, Riggle returned to SESAC in 2001 and was named Director, Broadcast Licensing in 2003 before being named Associate Vice President, Broadcast Licensing in 2007. Riggle holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications and Recording Industry Management from Middle Tennessee State University.


HELLO MUSIC Taps Diana Turk As Head Of Creative Licensing

Los Angeles-based online music company HELLO MUSIC has announced Diana Turk as Head of Creative Licensing. In her new position, she will be responsible for the development and growth of the HELLO MUSIC Creative Licensing department. Focused on creating opportunities for the HELLO MUSIC artist community in film, television, advertising, video games and other media outlets, Turk will increase awareness among the music licensing community to help secure synchronization uses for artists in the HELLO MUSIC system.

Prior to HELLO MUSIC, Turk served as Director of Film, TV & Creative Licensing at Razor & Tie. Additional posts include Director of Film & Television Music at Primary Wave Music Publishing and Creative Director at Right Bank Music.
