RIAA Appoints Cary Sherman Chairman And CEO
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Board of Directors has named Cary Sherman as RIAA Chairman & CEO, effective September 1, 2011. Sherman succeeds Mitch Bainwol, who has resigned his position to become CEO of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers. Sherman has served as RIAA President since 2001, after joining the organization as General Counsel in 1997.
Additionally, Mitch Glazier, who began his career in public policy as copyright counsel to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde (R-Ill.), and has spent the last 11 years at RIAA in charge of the organization's government relations activities, has been appointed Senior Executive Vice President. In this new role he will continue to lead the RIAA's activities on Capitol Hill and assume broader responsibilities as well.

Plácido Domingo Named As IFPI Chairman
Plácido Domingo has been named as chairman of IFPI, the organisation that represents the recording industry worldwide.
Domingo is a world-renowned, multifaceted artist. Recognised as one of the finest and most influential singing actors in the history of opera, he is also a conductor and a major force as an opera administrator in his role as general director of the LA Opera.
As a singer, his repertoire encompasses 134 roles, a number unmatched by any other tenor in history, with more than 3500 career performances. During his 40-year career, he has made more than 100 recordings of complete operas, compilations of arias and duets, and crossover discs. He has conducted more than 450 operatic performances and symphonic concerts with the world's major orchestras and opera companies.
As one of the celebrated "three tenors" in 1990, along with Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras, he brought opera to a mass global audience. He has recorded with all the major international record companies and won prolific acclaim including 12 Grammy awards. He has also been a dedicated supporter of young artists, founding programmes to promote the careers of future opera stars.
As chairman, Domingo will play a leading role promoting IFPI's priorities internationally. These include improving copyright legislation, promoting the work of music rights owners, helping develop a thriving digital music sector and supporting the industry's public education efforts around digital music.
Peter Edge Named RCA Music Group CEO
Peter Edge has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, RCA Music Group, it was announced today by Doug Morris, Chief Executive Officer, Sony Music Entertainment.
In this role, Edge will report to Morris and oversee the day-to-day operations of the group and its labels, which is now comprised of RCA, Jive, J, and Arista, as well as their affiliate labels.
In addition, Tom Corson has been named President & Chief Operating Officer, RCA Music Group. In this role, he will report to Edge and oversee promotion, marketing, publicity, digital, sales, international, video and operations for the label group.
Universal Republic Records Appoints Rob Stevenson To Executive Vice President, A&R
Universal Republic Records, a division of Universal Music Group, continues with the expansion of its creative investments this week by appointing prominent talent executive Rob Stevenson to the newly-created position of Executive Vice President, A&R.
Based in New York and reporting to Monte and Avery Lipman (Co-President/COO), Mr. Stevenson will be responsible for expanding the label's A&R activities across a variety of genres, including Pop and Rock.
Myxer Expands Leadership Team With Appointment Of William J. Brown As Vice President Of Marketing
Myxer, a mobile technology company that operates the largest ad-supported mobile entertainment site in the U.S., appointed William J. Brown to Vice President of Marketing. Brown will report to Myxer's Chief Marketing Officer, Mike Carson.
In this role, Brown will drive Myxer's marketing efforts across multiple channels and leverage his experience in digital consumer engagement as Myxer continues to innovate and expand its presence within the mobile entertainment marketplace.
Brown most recently was with the Interactive Servicing Unit at American Express where he led the worldwide operational strategy to support all self-service transactions and implemented a worldwide social media response team.
Guitar Center Professional Appoints Kurtis Ewing Account Manager
Guitar Center Professional (GC Pro), the outside sales division of Guitar Center that focuses on the needs of professional users, appointed of Kurtis Ewing to the position of Account Manager, based in the company's Sherman Oaks, California location, effective immediately. In his new position, Ewing will draw on his extensive experience in sound production to help GC Pro expand its presence in the studio, live, post-production and house-of-worship market sectors. The announcement was made by GC Pro Vice President Rick Plushner and further underscores GC Pro's ongoing commitment to the continuing growth of GC Pro as a turnkey supplier for professional end users.
Photo Finish Records Welcomes New A&R Blood
Trevor McFedries, better known as DJ Skeet Skeet, has joined the Photo Finish Records family to supplement the label's daily A&R operations. The announcement was made by Matt Galle, owner of the New York City-based indie label. McFedries, a Los Angeles based DJ/producer/musician/blogger will pilot the recruitment of new artists, writers and producers as well as continue his production work on original material and remixes for various acts.
Originally from Davenport, IA, McFedries spent his youth collecting and listening to hardcore/punk records. His fervor for spinning and collecting vinyl gradually expanded his musical pallet into a wide range of genres and eventually landed him DJ gigs at local venues. It wasn't long before McFedries made the move to Los Angeles where began making mix tapes and DJ'ing clubs, parties and art shows, asserting himself as a fixture in the Los Angeles party scene. His talents were quickly noticed and soon after McFedries began DJ'ing on tours, backing such like minded acts as Shwayze and Cisco Adler. To date McFedries has worked with hundreds of artists including Ke$ha, LMFAO, 3OH!3, Chris Brown and Neon Indian, both producing and creating original material, all of which can be found over at his sound cloud, www.soundcloud.com/skeetskeet. Currently, McFedries is performing as the opening act on Katy Perry's North American summer tour.
