Genjing Records Goes Vinyl With Duck Fight Goose's History 7"
Beijing newcomer Genjing Records has the sole purpose of releasing Chinese bands on vinyl
Nevin Domer, who runs operations at indie label Maybe Mars and booking at the now-defunct D-22, has been spending the last year working on a new label called Genjing Records, with the sole purpose of releasing Chinese bands on vinyl. While many of the early releases will be focused on the Beijing punk scene and his own band, Fanzui Xiangfa, Nevin plans to branch out and will be working with many more artists.
On April 1st Genjing Records, in conjunction with Maybe Mars, Uptown Records and Tenzenmen, released History 7" from Shanghai-based Duck Fight Goose. The record, which includes a razor-sharp cover design by Han Han, features the "History" single from Sports, as well as a remixed version of "Ghost is Online," the cult-favorite ending track from Flow. Limited to 500 copies and pressed on milky white vinyl History does not fail to live up to its name.
Formed in 2009, Shanghai's Duck Fight Goose quickly made a name for themselves as one of China's leading experimental bands. The quartet, which is made up of veterans from respected underground groups like Lava | Sea | Ox, Boojii, and Hard Queen, delved into electronic math rock in their widely praised first EP, Flow, which combined angular experimentalism with a warm, frenetic psychedelia.
Duck Fight Goose took a stylistic turn with the 2011 release of their debut full-length Sports on Beijing-based indie label Maybe Mars. The eleven-track album combines the band's earlier sound with the lush atmospherics of post-rock for a more mature, distinct sound.
