Signing Deals and Creating Music Stars
All cynicism aside, what can be more exciting for aspiring musicians than being signed by some a hot label or agency in the business?
All cynicism aside, what can be more exciting for aspiring musicians than being signed by some hot label or agency in the business? With the exception of spontaneous fame and fortune, nothing really comes to mind. Getting signed means a whole world of opportunities for the musician, not to mention becoming a part of a new family.
The Pennsylvanian hardcore metal band Chain The Scylla has an interesting story. They took part in the Battle of the Bands at one of GarageDog Records' artists CD release party and lost first prize to artist Josie McQueen. However, the label was so impressed with the band that they decided to have a second place winner. After this lucky, but well-earned break, Chain The Scylla signed on to GarageDog Records and are currently working on their first release.
Talented pop-rocker Jerad Finck signed a deal with New Jersey-based Rock Ridge Music, and the label wasted no time in releasing his intelligent sound through his EP "Stuck In Your Riddle." If that wasn't enough excitement for him, Finck signed a co-publishing deal with BMG/Chrysalis to represent his music for film and television. Publicity is off the charts for Finck and he is truly grateful for the opportunities and experiences that he is receiving. Jerad Finck is on tour this month, spreading his joy and music for all to hear.
South Carolina-based Christian rock band Broken Yesterday signed a development/management with The Management Agency (TMA). With powerful and melodious singer Dean Lambert in the band, it was only a matter of time till they were discovered. The chemistry between the members and the amazing music they create can be seen and heard in their upcoming tour and album release.
After working long hours, acquiring every bit of knowledge about the music business, and performing left and right, Kim Germaine is moving on to the next step by signing on to Concerthouse Music. Her new EP released in May, and it is rock 'n' roll all the way. Germaine is very ambitious and driven. She will not likely give up easily when the going gets tough, but fight on and accomplish every single goal on her list.
It was a pleasure for Blue Pie Records to have signed Flamenco guitarist Jacco Muller. I would be pretty psyched as well if I were dealing with a multiple award winning and highly recognized artist. And, unlike the other artists mentioned, he's a dancer as well! The Australian label plans on distributing his music digitally and licensing it globally for film, television and cable, as is the case with BMG and Jerad Finck.
Missing Link Music is another proud label to have signed an exceptional artist, who goes by the name of George "Spanky" McCurdy. Like the hardcore metal band Chain The Scylla, McCurdy is a Pennsylvania native, and just like their band member Justin Farrier, McCurdy is a drummer. The difference here is that McCurdy has worked with some big names in music, like Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, and Lady Gaga. That's a pretty impressive resume. With his unique style and impressive rep, George McCurdy is giving drummers like Neil Peart and Jimmy Sullivan a run for their money.
Talent and passion are obvious in all of these artists, but do they have that "it" factor? Well, the labels who signed them sure seem to think so. The labels themselves strive to build and maintain relationships, do extensive marketing, and provide the best for their artists so that they can provide the best for their fans.
