Beijing Indie Band Hedgehog Launches "Sun Fun Gun" Winter Tour
Sun Fun Gun was produced independently in cooperation with New York producer John Grew and featuring the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Gillian Rivers
This winter, Beijing indie pop-rockers Hedgehog 刺猬 will be going for another round of shows, hitting the places they didn't get to during their earlier tours. They just finished touring in Australia, promoting their fifth record sun fun gun, and for the next round they'll be visiting some cities for the first time ever.
Sun Fun Gun, produced independently but in cooperation with New York producer John Grew and featuring the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Gillian Rivers, promises to be a less gloomy record than its predecessor "Honeyed and Killed." However, as stated on the official Hedgehog website, heady issues were certainly still a factor in this album's conception: "Experiencing valueless values; Believing in faithless faiths, are you already on the way to the money-oriented life? Blind-eyed and clearheaded, getting married and have kids, are you going to spend your life like this?"
Hedgehog are surely a product of their environment, but they seem intent to impact the Chinese indie music scene with their work, as they have in the past. They hint at both continuities as well as divergences in their upcoming album: "Similar simple melodies and lyrics, similar scary independent expressions... they are using their own practice, to walk out a road developing Chinese independent bands, a road [that] belongs to them." Whichever direction that road takes them, you can count on it taking them to the venues listed below.
