Da Hong Pao (大红袍), a metal band from China, open the New Year with the release of their latest single "War". The title fits the song very well, with its powerful rhythm and fast paced drums, its tense and nervous atmosphere that creates an image of a magnificent battlefield, setting the story for a Chinese general fighting in a great war. Sung in Mandarin, the Chinese lyrics match the band's name - it's all about ancient Chinese culture.

Da Hong Pao signed their first deal with Mort Production, known as the biggest metal label in China, which released their first self-titled album in July 2011. Their upcoming album will mark a break from that first release, in style, lyrics and composition.

The band's name was given by Zhang Fan, the headmaster of Midi School (A well-known music school that launched China's oldest rock festival), and refers to one of the highest grade of teas used for analgesic and detoxicating as well as the armor of a heroic general. It indicates an act of gallant heroism and loyalty. So it can refer to both a kind of medicine which cures illness or weakness, and the red armor of the ancient generals.

The band does not limit itself to pure metal, blending elements of thrash, hardcore etc, into their own distinct style. Creativity and freedom is what the band seeks, in order to make better music.

After graduating from Midi School, Da Hong Pao was invited to several major music festivals in China, such as Midi Music Festival, Zhen Jiang Music Season, Sunlight Midi Ocean Music Festival, Shanghai Mei Lan Lake Music Festival and Asian Metal Music Festival, as well as putting on shows in Beijing livehouse-circuit. Though the band is still young, they've gained a lot of experience from their numerous festival performances. Their image on stage, powerful rhythms and vocals, and guitar distortion combine to create a pure feeling of American metal core and hardcore metal.
