"Useless Rock" Concert by Second Hand Rose
Second Hand Rose will now be the first rock band to perform in the 3000-seat Beijing Workers' Gymnasium, a prestigious state-owned venue
"Brother, what you playin rock for?" sings Liang Long on Second Hand Rose's debut album, answered by a heavy chorus of distorted guitars and suona.
A decade later, Chinese rock music is no longer confined to small clubs. Music festivals and televised talent shows have helped it become mainstream.
Second Hand Rose grew as well. In 2013 they signed to Modern Sky, published a new studio album (Stealing the Show), and further professionalized their live shows, working with specialists in film, photography, stage lighting and fashion. A 45 minute set now costs around 150.000 RMB.
Moreover, Second Hand Rose will now be the first rock band to perform in the 3000-seat Beijing Workers' Gymnasium, a prestigious state-owned venue.
However, despite these successes, rock music seems as useless as ever.
Sure you've learned to show off.
Why else does everyone love you?
But you've lost your ear, your voice,
Stuttering strange nonsense, nonsense...
Come on December 7th, let's find our ears, our voices, and make them count.
Damage: 280 (first ring), 480 (second ring), 680 (arena), 1280 (nouveau riche ticket, limited to 74 on the first 3 rows)
