Jen, who is a self-managed musician, was a very popular choice amongst the judging panel for her contribution to the music community
Jen Cloher has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to the field of music management by being awarded the Lighthouse award for 2013.
The annual award recognises a Victoria-based music manager who passionately supports Australian music, demonstrates integrity and creativity and is willing to mentor and embrace the wider music community.
Jen, who is a self-managed musician, was a very popular choice amongst the judging panel for her contribution to the music community and her work in mentoring musicians in areas of self-management.
Jen has capped off a successful 2013, which included the release of her third album In Blood Memory and a national 35 dates tour with Mia Dyson and Liz Stringer. She also spent a lot of her time travelling around the country facilitating workshops for self-managed musicians as part of the 'I Manage My Music' program.
"This award remembers the life and spirit of Linda Gebar," said Jen, on receiving the award. "She worked passionately to strengthen the world-class music community we share in Melbourne. There are always people behind the good things that happen in the music industry and Linda was one of those people."
We have so many great artists in this country that, if they had not taken on the role of self-management, we might never have heard of them. Thank you to the Lighthouse award for recognising the work we do."
The award is in memory of Linda Gebar who passed away in 2008. Linda was a successful music manager and booker, as well as a mentor and strong supporter of the Victorian music community.
