BMG Promotes Casimir To Run Worldwide Recordings Business
BMG, the new model music rights management business, has appointed Fred Casimir to run its recordings business worldwide as Executive Vice President International Repertoire.
Casimir will have responsibility for both new recordings released through BMG Artist Services and for BMG's substantial catalogue recordings business, including the Sanctuary and Mute Records catalogues.
Fred Casimir, formerly SVP European Repertoire and Managing Director BMG Germany, joined BMG in June 2009. Previously Casimir held positions at Fremantle Media Entertainment, Fremantle Licensing Germany, Mercury Records, EMI Electrola and worked as an independent music manager.
Sam Riback Named Atlantic SVP/Head Of West Coast A&R
Sam Riback has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Head of West Coast A&R for . The announcement was made today by Atlantic Chairman & CEO Craig Kallman and Chairman & COO Julie Greenwald. Riback, who joined Atlantic in 2002, relocated from New York City to the company's Burbank office in 2011.
"Since coming on board 12 years ago, Sam has rapidly grown into one of the most insightful, creative, and accomplished members of our A&R team," said Craig Kallman and Julie Greenwald. "From uncovering outstanding new talent to working with established artists to take their music to the next level, Sam brings exceptional knowledge, dedication, and passion to every project. Over the past three years, he has done a fantastic job in expanding our A&R footprint on the West Coast, so it gives us great pleasure to announce this much-deserved promotion."
Rising through the ranks of Atlantic's A&R Department, Riback was appointed Vice President in 2011. He has signed and/or worked with a diverse roster of artists, including Death Cab For Cutie, Santigold, Jason Mraz, Panic! At The Disco, B.o.B, Grouplove, Fitz and the Tantrums, Lykke Li, and others. Most recently, Riback was responsible for inking a deal between Atlantic and noted independent label Neon Gold.
Musician's Friend Names Michael Weiss as Vice President, Marketing
Weiss to focus on educating, inspiring, and engaging customers throughout their musical journey
Musician's Friend, the largest direct response retailer of musical instruments and gear in the U.S., and a division of Guitar Center, announces that Michael Weiss has been named as Musician's Friend's Vice President, Marketing. The announcement was made by Gene Joly, President, Musician's Friend Division.
Weiss is an accomplished musician who has played in front of large audiences across the country for more than 20 years. He has worked in the entertainment industry as a story editor and script analyst, working with Quincy Jones, Jerry Bruckheimer, Arnold Kopelson and Propaganda Films. As a regular TEDx Talker, teacher and speaker, he has spoken to thousands of people all over the United States
Utilizing his extensive management, marketing and sales experience, Weiss was CEO of southern California web agency imagistic for over 14 years. During this time, he worked with many world-renowned clients including Disney, FOX, ACLU, The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, GE Private Asset Management, Estée Lauder, Technicolor, Walden Media, Hollywood.com, The Southern Poverty Law Center, Sir Speedy, Capitol Records, California Pizza Kitchen, Kellogg's, Bank of America and UCLA.
Mariana Grassi Named Managing Director of Peermusic Argentina
Ralph Peer II, peermusic CEO, has announced the appointment of Mariana Grassi as Managing Director of peermusic's Argentine operations. In this position Ms. Grassi reports to Rafael Aguilar, peermusic's Madrid-based Latin Regional President.
For the past year Ms. Grassi has served as General Manager of peermusic Argentina's office. Prior to joining peermusic, she held a number of positions with EMI Music Publishing Argentina, most recently as Creative Director.
Guitar Center Names Kristy Porter As Director Of Merchandising, General Accessories
Guitar Center, Inc (GCI), the largest retailer of musical instruments and gear in the U.S., announces that Kristy Porter has been promoted to Director of Merchandising, General Accessories. Kristy is recognized in the industry as one of the most analytical and experienced category merchants and is respected by the vendor community she supports for her history of tenaciously driving sales in accessory categories on their behalf.
Kristy's career with Guitar Center started in 2001 as a customer service associate at the Oxnard, California store. In 2005, after four successful years as a top salesperson, Department Manager and Assistant Store Manager, she moved to Guitar Center's headquarters in Westlake Village as an Assistant Category Manager. She was quickly promoted to Category Manager, General Accessories, and over the past five years has helped her department grow into one of the largest in the company. Porter emphasizes the continued importance accessories have in attracting customers to retail stores on a more frequent and loyal basis.
Karen Godgart Joins IMFCON
The International Music Festival Conference (IMFCON) has appointed publishing executive Karen Godgart to the position of Vice President of Strategic Partnerships.
In her new position as VP of Strategic Partnerships, Ms. Godgart will be directly involved in business development, and creating new relationships with IMFCON and its sister organization, the International Film Festival Summit (IFFS). She will also serve as Publishing Director for Lineup Magazine, a new, groundbreaking publication dedicated to the rapidly converging worlds of music festivals, film festivals, and technology.
