peermusic Launches Joint Venture in China
The first signing by the peermusic/The L Miracle JV is the accomplished singer/songwriter Johan Yang
Global publisher peermusic announces the launch of a joint venture with The L Miracle, a successful music publishing and production company focused on the Chinese market. Founded in 2009, Beijing-based The L Miracle has produced and published a number of popular albums and film and television scores, including the theme to the Chinese adaptation of "Dangerous Liaisons" (staring Zhang Ziyi, known in the West for her role in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"). L Miracle's President, Leslie Mok, is an experienced music publisher in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. In the 1990s, he ran peermusic's successful Taiwan office.
The first signing by the peermusic/The L Miracle JV is the accomplished singer/songwriter Johan Yang. Johan is best-known for writing the theme song for the successful movie "Stolen Time," which has over 30 million streams. He has also written many songs performed by other artists including "The Shepherd" made famous by Jeff Chang Shin Che. Johan's myriad of hits reflects both his training in classical Chinese opera and his appreciation for modern pop music. Last month he was in the studio with the artist Peace, runner up on The Voice China, as Peace gets ready to release his first album. Johan is releasing a new album this month and performed at the official launch of the joint venture in Beijing. In addition to promoting his album this year with a tour of China, Johan continues to write film and television soundtracks and collaborate with other artists.
At the press conference, Yang said, "I'm excited to enter this new stage of my career as a writer and performer. I use music to love, to create and to change the world. The resources of The L Miracle and peermusic will help me reach more people with my music."
Leslie Mok went on to say "Johan Yang is an incredible talent and I expect Yang to gain many new fans who adore his music as a result of our deal with him. I want to share wonderful music with many more people and I know this philosophy is at the heart of peermusic as well."
Mary Megan Peer, President of peermusic's Asia Pacific region, said "we're happy to be working with Leslie again after so many years, especially in the rapidly developing Chinese music market. It's exciting for peermusic to be signing our first writer in mainland China. We look forward to Yang's success as an artist and songwriter in China and abroad. He will enjoy strong support from all of our offices in the Asian region, which are headed by Kenney Shiu in Hong Kong."
