MusicDish & Indiloop Announce 'Meet Taiwan' Remix Contest Winner
Andrew Morren's "Partially Made in Taiwan" was chosen as the grand prize winner, while Krista's "Red City (Krista Remix)" wins the fan favorite vote
After two weeks of intense remixing, MusicDish & Indiloop's "Meet Taiwan" Remix Contest came to a close. Contestants were given the opportunity to remix music from Taiwan's top acts for a chance to win free flight and hotel for two to Canadian Music Fest Being held in Toronto this month. The contest was supported by Toronto-based Chinese Rock Club (CRC), the first student-run organization that aims to introduce and publicize Chinese original rock, and featured music from top producer, recording/mixing engineer and composer DJ Code, award-winning indie rock band Bearbabes, EDM-infused group RED and Christian music group Jesus Fashion
After much deliberation by a voting committee and Indiloop, Andrew Morren's "Partially Made in Taiwan" was chosen as the grand prize winner of the competition. His work blends elements from Fashion Jesus' "You Are", Archestra's "Badman", and the Bearbabes' "Light in the Darkness" in order to create the uplifting mix. Morren's use of three sets of vocals amidst a backdrop of bass, drums, and synth emulates the feeling of musical freedom, as Fashion Jesus and the Bearbabes' voices soar over the instrumental mashup.
The winner of the fan favorite award was Krista from Taiwan, who will receive an autographed merchandise pack and 5,000 Indiloop coins for her ambitious remix. Her track, "Red City (Krista Remix)", aptly features the hypnotic vocals in RED's "Red City", supported by instruments and sound effects from a smattering of artists like DJ Code, Tay Zonday, Meteor Suit, Afghan Hound, Dodson, Awaken, and the Fathoms. The result is a captivating mix of east meets west that has the potential to attract a large demographic of music enthusiasts, which is undoubtedly why Krista's entry garnered the title of fan favorite.
