ADAMS, MA: Dick Stewart via his publication, "The Lance Monthly," has been giving music aficionados enjoyable commentary since 1966, and in an effort to encapsulate some of his works that entail this newsletter when it was active in Albuquerque, New Mexico during the mid-'60s, Stewart has two volumes for the enthusiastic music fan.

"The Lance Vol. I" are reproductions of the April to December 1966 issues of "The Lance Newsletter" as it was called then and they're complete with photos, rock music happenings, and track listings of essential music that was popular during that time. There are also other important and interesting facts both regionally and nationally in which full attention has been given;however, what truly gives this publication its unique place in history was its focus on the little known, obscure rock occurances in the Southwest during the mid-'60s. No other publication came close to "The Lance Newsletter's in-depth regional reporting.

"The Lance Vol. II" are reproductions of the December 1966 to December 1967 issues of "The Lance Newsletter" and it provides an extensive look at the Albuquerque scene during the worldwide mid-'60s garage band explosion. Again there are more track listings and photos of the more influential music released during that time along with more rarities, unusual events, colorful groups and fascinating characters that depict an extraordinarily wonderful time during those special golden years of rock.

These volumes are currently in ring binder paperback format on the lancerecord.com web site and (according to Stewart) there is a possibility that in the future, we may see a glossy hardback version of these essential pieces of music history. I'm hoping that this eventually happens. But for now, there are many historical treasures waiting for you in these booklets which were passionately compiled by one of the most important New Mexico artists of the '60s . . . Dick Stewart.
