Fine Arts Brass - Fine Arts Brass Play Baroque Nimbus
Artist: Fine Arts Brass
Title: Fine Arts Brass Play Baroque
Label: Nimbus (www.nimbus.ltd.uk)
Genre: Classical
Fine Arts Brass strikes again! So does Nimbus: one of the finest classical labels out there. At more than an hour's music, we are treated to 18 tracks of fine horns, and tracks from the oblique to the well known. From the somber, easily recognized funeral pace of Tomaso Albinoni's 'Adagio' to Handel's beautifully majestic 'Arrival of the Queen of Sheba', there is a track for every occasion, and every heart. Even if you're not into classical, this is a kicking way to start. Especially for winter.
The first thing that comes to mind, to me, when hearing Brass and Baroque is here comes Christmas! Indeed, the ensemble of Simon Lenton, Angela Whelan (trumpets), Stephen Roberts (horn), Simon Hogg (trombone), and Richard Sandland (tuba) demonstrate just what the giving season is all about. Their rich tones and professionalism congregate into a gorgeous piece of work.
Half the cd is filled with the work of J.S. Bach, and their picks are pretty good. 'Concerto in A minor for Violin and Strings' is reworked for all brass. And by the time even the first moment is over, you wonder if there are really only 5 people playing. Lovely arrangement.
