What do Dick Tracy's wrist radio & a BOOMBOX have in common? Sprint PCS!

In my olden (or were they golden) years, we grew up on comic strips that depicted iron-jawed detectives like Dick Tracy with some very futuristic (or so we thought) devices.  Tracy's "wrist radio" was one of those gizmos.  In those days, the transistor radio hadn't even hit the scene yet, so the idea that the nation's "top cop" could communicate no matter where he was seemed a quite novel idea.  My, how times have changed...

Sprint PCS (NYSE: PCS) announced in an early November press release that they are bringing a full suite of  music products and services into the wireless arena.  According to Charles Levine, Chief Operating Officer of Sprint PCS, they "will once again change the way people live."  You'd better believe it!  This first-of-its-kind hardware (Sprint PCS Phone™ Samsung Uproar™ -- the nation's first MP3 wireless phone), when combined with RealNetworks RealJukebox software, makes for a complete digital music experience.  A subscription to the service will include 2GB of storage space... that can equate to around 800 songs (depending on the length of the songs, of course).  Any way you look at it, though, once a user uploads their music collection, they will be able to listen to it anytime, anywhere!

There was another trend in the mid-'60's that drove some folks up the wall.  The BOOMBOX.  Now, just imagine... a whole street full of wireless phones, all blasting away at deafening volume levels.  Our detective friend Tracy would have had a heart attack!

The beauty of this integration, of course, is the fact that one's music collection can be managed from anywhere!  Customers can browse their music collections and queue up future songs or playlists -- all from their phone. By using the Sprint PCS Wireless Web, customers can create new music compilations from virtually anywhere, anytime, nationwide.  There's a promotion going on for the service, too... Sprint PCS customers who purchase a Samsung Uproar phone can sign-up for a free subscription to the Sprint PCS My Music service for one year by visiting the Sprint PCS site, at their website.

Somehow, I find it hard to imagine Dick Tracy with a BOOMBOX cradled under his arm.... but it's not nearly as hard to envision him slinking down a shadowy alleyway practicing the latest dancesteps; I mean, anybody with a wide-brimmed YELLOW hat & YELLOW overcoat has GOTTA' be able to breakdance, right?  Stay tuned for (much, much) more, people!
