AF the King - Torture Taught Ya
Artist: AF the KING
Title: Torture Taught Ya
Label: Asha Records (www.asharecords.com)
AF the KING is the perfect example of the evolution of an artist.
You have to know the history behind AF the King before you can comment
on the music. You wouldn't want to put him in the same category with
the fad of rap stars rising ever so quickly. This brother has history
and substance; which are hard to find in the same sentence.
Known as AF the KING, a.k.a. Africa became serious about music while
attending the Fashion Institute of Technology and earned his own radio
show at the college's station.
After honing his skills, the rapper rocked mics with his socially conscious
skills. The school's station format peaked his interest in artists such
as U2 and Depeche Mode.
His love for instrumental jazz and original bass lines are heard throughout
his songs. His hard work and evolving style has earned him a steady following
in the New York live circuit, and working with multi-platinum engineers
/ producers Roey Shamir and Angela Piva (INFX Productions) has elevated
the artist to a higher plateau.
This diversity can be heard on his new release, Torture Taught Ya, on Asha
The track, "Autumn N.Y.," is a favorite with smoothed out vocals, a funky
bassline and jazz inspired music arrangement. "Still Get Down" and "Lovely"
custom fit hip-hop, r&b, jazz, djs and rock fans like a tailor made suit.
How many people do you know can satisfy that range of diversity with one
project? AF the King. Enough said.
