Apple's iPod: Hit or Miss?
Music Industry News - as it happens

Apple Computer's new 6.5-ounce iPod MP3 device, able to store up to 1,000
songs and due to go on sale next month, will be, "the hottest gift this
holiday season," CEO Steve Jobs predicts. But he could be disappointed, said
CNET's Margaret Kane. The iPod is the company's first stab at the consumer
electronics market and, "marks an effort to use Mac-powered devices to drive
sales for its product line," said Margaret, adding the all-important
question - will it be a well-designed, but too expensive flop like its Cube?
"While analysts praised Apple's entry into the MP3 market, they expressed
concern that the cost of the device--$50 to $100 more than some
competitors--could be a sticking point for some consumers," she added. "The
fact that the iPod only works with the Mac OS could also limit its
potential, analysts said."
