Pop Group Detained at Airport
Straight from the "view of things to come" department, we have the story of a
band touring the world that was detained at JFK airport due to suspicion of
terrorism. The band, who is signed to a Big Five, but asked not to be named,
was returning from a tour of Europe, which included Turkey. Their basic
attire of rock and Roll regalia, which has always been a red flag to costumes
officials, triggered two security guards to ask them to step out of line at
immigration and wait in a room for clearance.
The band obliged without incident and were asked to wait in a small room
(without green M&Ms or videos games). After three hours with nobody checking
up on them, them began to get antsy.
All of the member's cell phones had been confiscated as well as their carry-on
luggage, which included three vintage guitars. Growing impatient, one member
demanded to be handled. This was met with Airline security calling the
police and assault charges threatened against airline personnel.
Eventually things were worked out. It seems that the official who escorted
them to detention had "forgotten" about them. Apologies were made and the
head of airline security agreed to drop assault charges in exchange for an
autograph for his 13 year old daughter.
"It was very scary " The lead singer commented, "I hadn't been in detention
since my fifth year of high school."
